Summer learning series launches tomorrow
UPDATE: The summer learning story was held in today’s News-Sun and will run Friday.
In tomorrow’s News-Sun I write about the importance of keeping kids learning through the summer so they don’t lose knowledge they’ve gained during the school year.
Educators call this the “summer slide.” Without educational activities, kids can lose up to two months of grade-level math skills and three to six months of grade-level reading skills, studies show.
To help parents and caregivers keep local students learning this year, I will write a weekly article with suggestions for educational activities every Monday in the News-Sun and we’ll have a daily idea on the blog.
If any teachers or parents out there have something their kids enjoy to do as an educational activity, please share in the comments or send me an email and I’ll use it as a daily web idea (with credit to you of course!)
So check back tomorrow morning for the first of the daily suggestions.
