Final small schools principal selected
Interim Superintendent Don Thompson will recommend to the Springfield school board Thursday night to appoint Kristin Barker, a South High School teacher, as principal of the school of global perspectives, according to Board President Donna Picklesimer.
Barker fills the final vacant slot for the small schools principals. The others are: South High School Assistant Principal Thomas Spurgin, school of humanities; North High School Assistant Principal Mike Skavaril, school of leadership; and North High School Assistant Principal Kathy Lee, school of problem-based learning.
There will be an administrator appointed to help bring “cohesiveness” to the small schools under the Springfield High School umbrella but it’s unclear what that person’s title would be, said Picklesimer. Thompson has been interviewing candidates and the board has given him permission to make an addendum to the agenda for tomorrow night’s meeting if he selects someone in time for the meeting.
So that makes two from North and two from South for the small schools principals.
The board meets at 6 p.m. in the city forum at 76 E. High St,
