Centerville business celebrates 60th anniversary

An area business is celebrating its 60th birthday by offering a discount to brides-to-be.

Athena’s Bridal & Prom will take 10 percent off regular price wedding gowns until Dec. 31.

The business is believed to be the oldest continuously operated bridal salon in the state.

It was launched in downtown Dayton by Athena Stamos in 1951 and relocated to a downtown Centerville location several years ago.

Current owner Beth Harper purchased the business from second owner Joen Gibson in December 2009. Gibson bought Athena’s in 1973.

It has been located at 25 East Franklin St. the past six years.
