The event sponsored by the Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association will feature a costume contest, vendors, raffle baskets, door prizes, dog agility, drill team demonstrations and face and paw painting. At least one signed NASCAR item will be included in the event’s silent auction.

Registration is $30 the day of the walk and begins at 9:30 a.m.

The dog walk will be held rain or shine and begins with an 11 a.m. Blessing of the Animals.

The costume contest starts at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best costume in categories, including best dog and owner costumes.

More than 140 dogs and their people attended last year’s walk. More than $10,000 was raised.

Boutique closing at The Greene

Envy XOXO will close shop at The Greene Sunday, boutique owner Tara Arnold told me today.

Arnold and her daughter Shayna will focus on growing their online business at shopenvycouture.com.

It’s one of a handful of locally-owned shops to close recently at the Beavercreek complex this year.

Business at Envy, 73 Chestnut Street, has been a challenge, Arnold says.

“It’s been up and down,” she says of sales at the physical store. “It’s just hard to make it locally.”

Items are marked down 30 percent at the store through its closing.

Arnold says she will now focus on enhancing the shop’s website and hosting house parties.

The online shop will offer free shipping and will sell several new lines, including Betsey Johnson’s Pink Label, Wildfox jewelry and swimwear, Nicholai jewelry by Nicky Hilton, Brandy Melville clothing and Sky dresses and embellished shirts.

At least four other locally-owned shops have closed at The Greene this year.

Bethany’s Bridal and Prom closed Jan. 31. Jenna Claire design your handbags closed Sept. 30 and is now online only.

Hausfeld’s Salons and Spa merged its Greene location into its location at Marketplace at Settler’s Walk in Springboro in May.

Joey Eric closed in April.

Owner Jalonda Hill says it was a struggle to complete with larger companies in the struggling economy.

“I am sure everyone felt the same effect,” she said of the pressures.

Her company is revamping its website. It now mostly hosts home parties and travels to sell at various shows and events.

“Its more profitable and more fun,” Hill told us.
