Beavercreek, Bellbrook women among record breakers at Air Force Marathon
The 2011 Air Force Marathon was full of broken records last weekend.
There were a record number of runners and five course records broken during the annual event.
Officials partly credit the “phenomenal” weather for bring out the crowds who cheered runners on to victory.
Here are the new records from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s website:
Kara Storage of Beavercreek came in at 1:15:56 in the Women’s half marathon smashing the previous record of 1:18:20 set by Christine Johnston in 2010.
There were three new records set on the 10K course.
Josh Cox, the USAF full Marathon record holder, broke the overall Men’s 10K record with a 31:09. It was previously held by David Johnston with a 32:37 in 2008.
Maj. James Bales of Monument, Colo. set the Military Men’s 10K record with a 32:14. Kristoffer Chacon had held the record with a 33:11 in 2008.
Bellbrook’s Christine Tieman broke a 10K record in the Women’s division running a 39:35. The record in this division had belonged to Varinka Barbini with a 39:49 in 2009.
Catherine Graham of Lafayette, Ind. set the record foor Women’s 5K with a time of 19:14. She topped the previous mark of 19:31 set by Dianne Striebel in 2009.
