Radio station drops ‘Bubba the Love Sponge’

The love has been lost between 95.3 The Eagle (WZLR-FM) and “Bubba the Love Sponge.”

The radio station has dropped the syndicated morning radio show in favor of classic hits from the 80s, said program director Nick Roberts.

The station switched its format featuring 80’s and 70’s hits last year. The changed was embraced by the audience, Roberts said, noting that listeners asked for music during the morning, the most popular time of day for music on the radio.

“Bubba the Love Sponge” first aired on WZLR in March of 2009.

WZLR, which like the Dayton Daily News is part of the Cox Media Group, now features music from bands like Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.

Good move 95.3. I think one morning show of that ilk is enough

Terrible MOVE! I like the music that 95.3 plays but will boycott it simply because it got rid of Bubba. Thanks 95.3, now I have to pay $300 for an Iphone and another $500 a year for a data plan and Radio IO.

Terrible move, BTLS was the one good thing 95.3 had going for it after it changed it’s format. BTLS was a lot more entertaining, informative, and real than tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber on 104.7. Aren’t they eligible for social security by now??? It’s a good thing I can get 92.5 out of Cincy to listen to a halfway decent classic rock station.

Bubba is a jerk. A complete knee-biter. I listened once and he was berating some poor intern on-air becaues he used the gym. I’m glad to hear more music in the morning.

Good riddance to his opinionated, hateful self. For a long period of time, I was forced to listen to his ranting and argument-instigating in the morning as my husband found him “interesting”. I was never so glad in my life as the day I was finally able to listen to a decent radio station that didn’t have ANY talking in the morning — 92.9. I don’t have any plans to switch, regardless of whether BTLS and his gang of drunken jerk friends are broadcasting or not.

Not a big deal, terrestrial radio is almost dead anyway, I listen to streaming audio in the car and if I want to listen to Bubba I still can.

I stopped listening to 95.3 when BTLS went on the air. Now I can go back to listening to music in the morning.

I’ve tried to embrace BTLS but I can’t listen to his ramblings. He’s like every other talk radio host who has their own opinion and bashes whoever disagrees. What kind of retarded name is “Bubba the Love Sponge” anyway?! Bob&Tom used to be funny until the FCC strangled the comedy out of the show. Now they suck too playing the same old tired skits everyday.

Glad to see more 80’s music will now be on the airwaves. I just wish 95.3 had a stronger signal north of Dayton.

Bubba was the only reason I started listening to 95.3 The Eagle. His program made your station a mainstay on my radio dial. Without him your station is another lame jukebox.

BAD MISTAKE!!! I loved Bubba and the 80’s music. I guess I will go back to 107.7 now. Ihave listened to Bubb for a long time and love to listen to him get everyone’s goat with his stong opinionated comments. Guess I will find another way to listen to Bubba. I wont be tuning in to 95.3 anymore. BAD MOVE GUYS!!!!

Shame to have lost a talk show host that could tell it like it is. Guess we have to think of the quote from “a few good men” in the fact that there are people out there that “can’t handle the truth” that Bubba explained so well!! I’ll be listening to another station now. Miss ya Bubba.

All you haters are nothing but fake nobodys, who bury your head in the sand…Bubba rocks, he was a breath of fresh air who told it like it is and 95.3 has sunk to a new low, keep playing the same tired music over and over, goodbye and good riddance 95.3! Terrestrial radio and censorship suck! I thought this was the US of A? Guess we are no different than China!!!

By Spike

There was no reason to drop BTLS show in the AM. It is consistent with the direction the station took. Now I’ll have to listen to classic music on the morning drive!

I haven’t bothered with 95.3 since they took Bubba off, and I don’t plan to listen to their garbage music ever. I have an ipod hookup in my car and Bubba was the only thing that kept me from using it in the morning. Cox may as well ditch the station altogether.

it’s hard for me to say b/c I liked him on Sirius, but he was hindered by the lack of stations outside Fla, his show got repetitive, and he had the disadvantage of being on a crummy station here. Probably for the best

The worst mistake you did was to get is of Bubba he is the reason I enjoyed my ride to work every morning. I guess the truth hurts for the ones that don’t understand were he’s coming from. He speaks the truth and nothing but the truth. I will listen to him on my PC now. You lost me as a listener.
