Dayton native featured on new Michael Jackson song

Having a cool whistle landed a 1994 Trotwood grad on what could be one of a pop icon’s last album.

Danny Ray McDonald II can be heard whistling on Michael Jackson’s recently released posthumous album “Michael.”

“It was like winning the lottery,” McDonald, a singer, actor and rapper said of the job he landed through a friend who engineered the song “Hollywood Tonight” for Jackson.

McDonald, the son of Victoria and Danny Ray McDonald Sr. of Kettering, said Jackson was at his recording session for the song held about five years ago.

“I’ve met a lot of celebrities,” he said. “I have never been struck like that before.”

McDonald shared a meal with the superstar and met one of Jackson’s sons.

“It was a surreal moment, getting directs from Michael Jackson and hanging out with him for a few hours,” he said. “It was one of the greatest moments of my life.”

McDonald, who was born in Dayton, is credited on the controversial album as Danny Ray McDonald Jr.

Some question if Michael Jackson would have wanted the album released and if the voice on the song “Breaking News” belonged to Jackson.

McDonald has few doubts that the singer on the song is Jackson.

“I just think that voice can not be duplicated,” he said. “If someone has a voice like that, please come out.”

The 34-year-old acted and modeled while in Miami Valley. After Sept. 11, he decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue his show business dreams.

McDonald has appeared in several films, including “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and “All about Steve.”
