Movie directed by Dayton native beats “Jackass 3D” in Memphis
“Jackass 3D” grossed it way into the hearts and minds of America this weekend, bringing in $50 million
But a tiny film with local ties spanked it’s bottom in Memphis, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal’s “The Bloodshot Eye” film blog.
“N Secure” directed by 1975 Fairview High School grad David M. Matthews was the top film at several Memphis theaters and didn’t do so poorly nationwide.
The super-low budget movie ranked No. 11 with $1.4 million.
It is no wonder the flick did so well in Memphis. It was Memphis producer Julius Lewis’ first.
Essence Atkins, the co-star of “Half and Half,” Cordell Moore and Denise Boutte lead the film’s mostly black cast that includes former Cosby kid Tempestt Bledsoe.
N Secure tells the story of a self-made man who was raised in an oppressive household and now has relationship problems.
An Emmy winning composer who once was a WDTN, Matthews penned the 2008 advice book “Every Man Sees You Naked: An Insider’s Guide to How Men Think,”.
