Dayton native to star in Camp Rock movie

Dayton native Matthew “Mdot” Finley seems the perfect fit for a movie about music.

He sings, dances and plays saxophone, guitar, piano, drums and bass.

Finley has a key role in the Disney Channel original movie “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” premiering Sept. 3.

He plays Luke Williams, the best performer at the rival camp, in the follow up to “Camp Rock,” the number one cable entertainment telecast of 2008.

Camp Rock’s main cast reunite at camp and face competition from performers at Camp Star. There’s bound to be plenty of singing, dancing and drama in the new movies.

The son of Anthony Finley and Rhonda Charmaine Allen Finley is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Now 22, he appeared in his first commercial at age 10.

Finley has come a long way.

The R&B singer/ song writer, has opened for several national acts, including Lil’ Mama, Ciara, Yung Joc, Lil’ Romeo, Howard Hewitt, Talib Kwali and Mos Def .

“I want to usher in a positive image for R&B,” Finley says. “By that I mean a positive image for pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop - the urban sound.”
