FOX 45/ ABC 22 and anchor cut ties
Fox 45/ ABC 22 and evening anchor Candice Hunter have parted ways, according to Dean Ditmer, general manager of the stations.
Hunter’s last day was Wednesday, June 2, Ditmer said, adding that he could not discuss the details of her departure.
“We wish her the best,” he said. “She made a lot of contributions.”
Hunter joined WRGT and WKEF two and half years ago after leaving a job with WLWT in Cincinnati.
The Virginia native said she remains committed to the Dayton/ Cincinnati area and will continue as a board member of the Dayton chapter of the American Red Cross.
Hunter, a journalist 20 years, plans to explore other options.
“It has been on my mind for sometimes but I wanted to fulfill my obligation and get them through a key ratings period,” she said, noting that her contract would have expired in October.
Hunter, who recently returned from the station following a back injury, said she wants to help improve the community. She said she is most proud of spearheading her station’s sponsorship of The Feast of Giving which replaced the Beerman Thanksgiving Dinner, but had done all she can do at Fox 45/ABC 22.
(As an anchor,) basically the only interaction I was having was with three cameramen,” she said, noting that she will miss the job, but it doesn’t define her. ” “Sometimes it a good idea to step back and get a better perspective.”
The search is on for her replacement, Ditmer said, adding that Cara Zinski, Kylie Conway and Kathy Hart will fill her shifts in the short term.

It only goes to show you that not only do they not “recognize”, real talent, which Candice Hunter is, but their studio sound mix is still horrible and inaudible! Ahhh! But then again WKEF’s sound mix has always been ratty, they’ve never noticed!

Who cares? I stopped watching this semi- professional news cast after the idiots there fired Mark Pompillio.

This doesn’t surprise me, I hope that they find someone that is better than Candice, and I agree with Jack that they should bring back Asa. She was a great reporter and anchor.

“Real talent”, Mr. Beaver? SERIOUSLY? Do you know something of her the rest of us do not? Hmmmm? Because her talent certainly was NOT that of an on air personality. She mispronounced more words than Quaker has oats and was plain weird looking.

I liked Candice, thought she brought levity and professionalism to their broadcast. It’s frustrating as a viewer - just when you get used to “inviting” an anchor personality into your home, they’re gone. Suggestion for GMs - find someone good and stick with them.

Asa George? Good lord, that girl was dumber than bag of hair. She was constantly tripping over her words and the blank, deer-in-a-spotlight stare didn’t help her cause, either.

Once again WKEF (We Keep Equipment Forever) let another real piece of talent slip through their fingers… It’s time they just shut their news dept down, nobody watches their tired news cast, with their tired news set, graphics and that horrendous theme music….

I wonder if she’s laying low until her contract is fully up, and then we’ll see her replace someone on Channel 7. She want’s to stay in the area, and is complaining about being stuck in the studio. Makes sense. Wouldn’t be the first time Channel 7 did that…

For goodness sake! She reads the news from a piece of paper containing words that most likely have been written by someone else! She’s probably a very sweet person. I applaud her activity in the community and hope that if she stays in the area she continues that work. But c’mon…..she’s a news reader. Just how important, in the big scheme of things, is a news reader? Beyond the sex appeal and personality thing that so many seem to focus on, they are all interchangeable parts. Some read the news better than others.

It amazes me that people have such insulting and even more, inaccurate comments about celebrities. I wonder if Paul McCartneys life is as easy as everyone thinks. The people who make it look easy are the most talented because they prepare. It takes hard work and many many hours of dedication. Candice is a go getter and a worker. She cares about People around her and she contributes to causes and concerns in her community. She is very bright, compassionate, talented. Perhaps while we are sitting on our couches watching t.v. judging other people for what we see as their shortcomings, we should look in the mirror and assess our own. Now that would be News!! Candice is a winner and she will be successful in whatever she does and where ever she goes!! “And So It Goes!”

She could be leaving on her own. She could have been shoved out the door. Who knows? But it never ceases to amaze me the attitude of the local viewer who works their M-F day shift so quick to slam all the TV employees who have come up through the ranks working nights, weekends, and holidays for a paycheck that I assure you is way less than you imagine it to be. It’s a tough and unforgiving business, so I say more power to her, no matter her circumstances.

WKEF is a Sinclair station… what sort of positive career experience was she expecting? It’s like going from a real restaurant to McDonald’s, and then wondering why your years of culinary experience are neither acknowledged nor utilized.

I met Candice in Cincinnati through her efforts to support our local Breast Cancer Awareness 5K run. She is an incredibly hard working and dedicated journalist and, even more importantly, a person who truly cares about others. It will be our loss if she decides to relocate from our area. But we all wish you the best Candice!

WOW - What a loss for Dayton. Candice allowed us to hear bad news but watching her deliver it just made worth while. What a BEAUTIFUL PRO. I no longer need channel 22 or 45 on my dial, but then no other channel has anyone close to Candice. Best of Luck to You Candice.

Whoever made that comment about Candice looking like a man in drag must have skewed vision. There is no doubt that she does indeed look like a woman, and a nice looking one at that. I don’t know what this thing is about people thinking this way about women who don’t fit their idea of what a woman should look like, but comments like this are unwarranted.

Kylie Conway is a breath of fresh air with Don Hammond co-anchoring together. I like the combo working together and Kylie brings a young and enthusiasic attitude to the news cast. You could tell Candice did not get along with Don Hammond. I could tell by the way they interacted on the newscast. And, I think Candice had the hots for Booth the weather guy even though Mark is happily married and would not want the dizzy Candice and her lazy eye.

I knew something was up. Every couple of days the poor woman had to change her look. I think people like some of you complained so much that they finally got rid of her. OMG are we going backwards with women’s rights? A woman has to be perfect to anchor the news? I thought that was hashed out with Christine Craft years ago. Shame on all of you worrying about her looks. Kylie Conway is as plain as the day is long. I am so glad she is liked because she is hardly a bombshell. I, as a woman am very insulted about the critique of Candace and if they let her go for her looks, I will be right here cheering her when she sues the pants off of Fox News!!!! By the way, men, if you want to see bombshells then check out the porno chicks, not the news. Women, that is why we have less pay and are disrespected, we are so catty and mean to each other. I am so happy when any woman achieves. Why aren’t you? Be nice!!

Too bad………she was classy, a great anchor, and had a good sense of humor. I will miss her a lot. She brought class to the news program. And to the moron that made the comment about the lazy eye, I’m surprised that you could compose or even figure out how to e-mail. Too bad about your lazy mind.

Dearest Candice, You are a real professional and person. We didn’t realize you had left, because we were busy in June with the Inaugural Blake LaForce #41 Memorial Scramble, which was a big success. We thought you might have been on vacation. Oh well you can’t stop progress, so we wish you the best always. You covered Blake’s journey like no other. Many and we will never forget your sincere concern and efforts to tell our son’s story to help others. You have a heart like our Blake’s. I want to present a copy of the book, “Because of BLAKE #41” to you when it is published soon by Crossbooks. Let’s get together. God bless you. We love you. Mark, Linda LaForce & family LOVE 41 PS: Some of these comments are from people who need to find their heart.
