Dick Cheney in hot water over support of waterboarding

What’s a little, er, waterboarding among friends?

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is catching all sorts of flack on the internet for voicing his support of waterboarding as a tool to get information from accused terrorists.

During an interview Sunday with ABC’s reporter Jonathan Karl, Cheney said he opposed President Obama’s ban on waterboarding, an internationally recognized form of torture.

“I was a big supporter of waterboarding,” Cheney said. “I was a big supporter of the enhanced interrogation techniques.”

Read transcript of interview here.

Some have gone as far as calling the former VP a war criminal.

“So the former vice-president has just confessed to a war crime. I repeat: the former vice-president has just confessed to a war crime,”Andrew Sullivan wrote earlier this week in his “Daily Dish” blog for The Atlantic. “There is no statute of limitations for such a crime; and the penalty under law is either the death penalty or a prison sentence for life.”

What do you think?

I don’t see how he could get in trouble or how anyone could even think he would. He wasn’t the one doing the actual waterboarding…. was he? No, it would be the interrogators. Cheney is entitled to his opinion, just as every other American is. Just because it doesn’t go along with your’s doesn’t make someone “criminal.” At least he wasn’t calling anyone a bunch of “fck!ng rt@rds!” But, like I said, this is America, and since he wasn’t p.c. about it, and is okay with using VIOLENCE, AGAINST VIOLENT, EVIL, AMERICA HATING S.OB.S, then he’ll get the shaft & have everything possible said about him in any negative possible way.

Would like to see Cheney as the recipient of water boarding; just to show everyone how safe and humane it really is. And, to see if his frail heart can handle it. Just an “opinion”

If waterboarding saved American lives then what is the problem. I am sick of this debate. The part of waterboarding is that is does not kill the prisoner. Our people suffered worse at hands of Japanese and in Vietnam

I’m sure all the cowards who have never served this country any further than paying taxes, are horrified there are actually ugly things that have to happen when you are at war.Far worse things have occurred than simulating drowning to protect greater numbers of American lives, so many of the population have the comfortable position of condeming such acts that have kept us relatively safe, until now.

I’m a Korean war veteran, and I oppose waterboarding and any other form of torture. It makes us just as bad as our enemies. America is supposed to be above such things. If I can’t play by the rules, I don’t play.

I’m a Korean war veteran and I oppose waterboarding and any other form of torture. The ends never justify the means. As Americans we are supposed to be above such tactics. If we aren’t we lower ourselves to the level of our enemies.

Dick Cheney is a national disgrace and should be charged with the appropriate crimes. He and Bush lied and trampled our constitution.

The press using this to beat up Cheney as if we are all in agreement that waterboarding is tourture. I still don’t think it is torture. Leave the man alone, I wish HE was president and not this Chicago reject political hack we have right now!!!!!!

Many people aren’t aware that there were Japanese military leaders who ordered the use of waterboarding during WWII and were put to death for it. If vice-president Cheney was in charge he was responsible, not just those who were fillowing orders… which cannot be used as an excuse either.

M is exactly right. We tried and hung war criminals for these very acts at the end of WWII. The USA should take the high road, and NOT water-board. We’re a better people than that. Cheney needs to go away.

When Bush lied about the reasons for the war in Iraq, that was when the war crimes started. When torture of human beings became a part of the lie based war, then we became no better than terrorists or perhaps like other countries that practice torture as standard operating procedure. When other countries torture our citizens, we become angry and want revenge. So do they. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Woolfowitz, Rice and others are criminals and terrorists in their own right. And should stand trial for torture and treason.

Your President, Barack Obama, may have given Mr. Dick Cheney Secret Service protection, but that will not stop us. We will capture him and deal with him harshly. We will make him regret the day he was born.

What is wrong with you people? If 911 could have been averted using these techniques , dont you agree then? I am sure if you had any friends, relatives , you would have a whole different outlook on this matter! Terrorists know going in what the consequences are ahead of doing their evil deeds. If waterboarding avoids terrorists from American or our allies then i am all for it! I am sure all you bleeding heart liberals would be overwhelmingly for it if your family is terrorized by these same devils you professed to protect from this effective way of averting future acts jihad against all of us in the free world!

Um, ssbn, Bush received the same intelligence that the Democrats in Congress received. You know, the same Democrats that voted for military action? You liberals have such short memories. Anyway, if you want to lynch Bush & company, be sure to lynch every Democratic congressperson too. They all acted off the same intelligence information received. And to Gungadin, Obama is doing more to destroy the Constitution than anyone. He even said that the Constitution has “deep flaws”. So, direct your anger to where it needs to go…Obama!
