Bar says Jell-O shots are not ‘alcoholic beverages’
It jiggles, it wiggles and a judge says it is booze.
Union Bar in Iowa City, Iowa came up with a very creative defense after being accused of selling Jell-O shots to underage patrons working with police - Jell-O shots are not alcoholic beverages.
A judge didn’t buy it, according to the Press-Citizen.
“There is no evidence in the record to support the licensee’s argument that — simply because vodka was mixed with Jell-O mix — it lost its character as an alcoholic beverage,” Administrative Law Judge Laura Lockard recently ruled, according to the newspaper.
“While there might be some debate in another context as to whether Jell-O is a food item or beverage, in this context … the Jell-O shots served by the licensee were alcoholic beverages.”
Nice try.
The bar was fined 500 bucks.

They might have a point there… Plenty of places serve food laced with wine, beer and alcohol. So why is food marinated in wine not considered alcohol if jello shots are considered alcohol?

Big difference. The actual alcohol evaporates in the cooking process for cakes, chili, etc. For a jello shot, the mix of booze and jello is still there. As for the chocolates, good question. Not as high octane and not as much quantity?

to “Null” and “Coco”- Food marinated in wine is cooked, and the majority of the alchohol content cooks out. Alchohol in jello shots retains the properties of alcohol. Kahlua in chocolates is a trace amount, not enough to impair someone’s normal functioning. (I still wouldn’t give Kahlua candy to my kids, or rum cake for that matter, but I happen to be one of those caring parents with common sense.)

Although not meant for children in “large” quanities, the chocolates do not contain enough alcohol to get one drunk-unless you eat an un-Godly amount. Alcohol used in cooking is for the flavors is produces. The alcohol burns completely out.

When can be the iphone five likely to be released? I have verizon and would certainly like to have the iphone when my personal contract expires in April, I want to find out if the apple iphone 5 is arriving out at any time in the future, since if so, I might stick it out lengthier to acquire that instead of the iphone 4.
