Beauty counters closing at Beavercreek, Miamisburg malls

Fans of Prescriptives Cosmetics will have to shift their beauty routines.

The company will close all of its department store beauty counters on Sunday, Jan. 31, including those at the Dayton Mall Macy’s and the Elder Beerman’s at the Mall of Fairfield Commons.

Prescriptives products will still be available at prescriptives.com while supplies lasts.

The bestselling Calyx fragrance will still be sold at select department stores beginning Monday, Feb. 1, and on the company’s web site.

They don’t know how to sell. The standing joke between my daughter and I is that we walk down the fragrance isle at these stores to see if we get stopped or otherwise approached about fragrances and other cosmetics. I mean, you can make eye contact with these gals and smile at them and they won’t try to stop you and interest you in their products. You have to stop and beg them to sell you something!

My friend and I have an opposite game for the kiosk people at the mall. When they invade our personal space to sell us products we don’t want we spontaneously have a “serious” conversation. Those conversations have included: “I told him if he’s going to leave me with his fat ex-wife’s kids, he’s not getting the Mustang!” or “They found grandpa without his pants 2 miles up the road!” or the especially effective one “They said it’s contagious and terminal!” In all seriousness, I understand these people have a job to do, I just don’t like being approached like a mugger in an alley. If I want Proactive, I’ll come to you!

the only time i ever tried to buy makeup from a department store was when i was getting ready for my wedding. I went to the clinique counter and after waiting for about 10 minutes for someone to help me, was told by the saleswoman that i couldn’t buy any products that day because they were in the middle of a special promotion (apparently one where they don’t want to make any money!). There were no other costumers. I walked out of the store and have never gone back to a beauty counter.

Meagan you are an idiot. None of those conversations could be classified as serious.

I had the privilege of working at the Prescriptives counter at the Fairfield Commons Mall at what was Parisian. Megan, you have them confused with another company, as they are Prescriptives, not Proactive, and were never found at mall kiosks. The products were top-notch and the treatment that I received from upper-management was superior. I find it very sad that the entire line is being shut down as the services that we provided such as custom blend foundation and powder were very unique. Prescriptives, you will be missed.

In my experience, those “makeup ladies” spend all of their time in the aisle, talking with each other. It’s a wonder that any of them sell enough to stay in business.

It took me years to find the right foundation and made a big difference when I did. I loved their foundations and have been using it for the last 5 years. I am very sad they are closing down and I am not looking forward to having to find a replacement product!!
