Area community inspires new Bon Jovi song
Singer Jon Bon Jovi was so inspired by the plight of workers in Wilmington that he wrote a song.
Bon Jovi told NPR Fresh Air host Terry Gross that he penned “Work for the Working Man” was written after watching a story about the closure of DHL in Wilmington on CBS’ “60 Minutes.”
60 Minutes has done several stories about Wilmington’s plight. The latest is below.
Bon Jovi said he was especially moved by the story of a DHL worker who took the work badges from fellow workers on their last days.
Work for the Working Man is on Bon Jovi’s latest album “Circle.”
Wilmington residents were rocked when DHL, that community’s major employer, announced last year that it was leaving.
Talk show host Rachael Ray and comedian Jay Leno have held special events in Wilmington to honor residents affected by the company’s exit.
