Study: Ohio 44th in happiness
Not happy in Ohio? It seems you’re not alone.
Ohio ranks 44th when it comes to happy people, according to a research conducted by The United Kingdom’s University of Warwick and Hamilton College in the US.
The study ranked the quality of life available in the 50 states plus the District of Columbia.
Findings were published in the journal “Science” Thursday, Dec. 17, according to a press release.
Researchers used 2005 to 2008 survey information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It included a sample of 1.3 million Americans and measured life-satisfaction in each state.
If you believe the findings ( I can’t say I do), people in Louisiana are the happiest and those in New York state are the most gloomy.
The Buckeye state ranked 44th out of 51.
Top ten in happiness: 1, Louisiana 2, Hawaii 3, Florida 4, Tennessee 5, Arizona 6, Mississippi 7, Montana 8, South Carolina 9, Alabama 10, Maine
Bottom 10 in happiness:
41, Pennsylvania 42, Rhode Island 43, Massachusetts 44, Ohio 45, Illinois 46, California 47, Indiana 48, Michigan 49, New Jersey 50, Connecticut 51, New York

Cali at 47? Louisiana at #1? I’ll gladly trade spots for pretty much anywhere in California. Dayton for San Juan Capistrano? Really? I think The United Kingdoms University of Warwick and Hamilton College in the US spent a little too much time on Bourbon Street for this study.

I think, happiness is still a tricky word. I had a shot at trying to define it in a more “scientific” or “objective” way, despite it being a subjective feeeling: www.spreadinghappiness.org/2009/08/what-is-happiness/ I would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you, Nick
