“Whatever” named the most annoying word in the nation… whatever
Want to annoy someone? Say “whatever.”
“Whatever” is the most annoying word in the union, according to a Marist College poll released Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Whatever (pronounce it “WHAT’-ehv-errr” if you really, really want to be annoying) was named most annoying word by 47 percent of those polled by the college in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
People in the Midwest were particularly annoyed by “whatever.” Fifty-five percent of Midwesterners selected it as the most annoying word.
Whatever beat the competition easily nationally.
“You know,” was named most annoying by 25 percent of respondents.
“Anyway” was named by 7 percent or respondents, “it is what it is” by 11 percent and “at the end of the day” by 2 percent.

I kinda like half of whatever. I mean “ever” is a very pretty word, don’t you think? Parents say it all the time; “I will love you for/ever.” and they lived happily ‘ever’ after.By Just My Opinion

‘No Problem’, I totally agree with you! I always want to say, “It should be no problem, because you’re getting paid and tipped for this!” HA! Also am not a fan of being approached by a gum-chewing server who never fails to ask, “How are you guys doing today?” I realize things could be a lot worse, but I’m not a guy and my 87 yr old mother certainly isn’t, either! Like, you know?? :)By MajorFan

They talked about this on the radio this morning and I was tempted to call in and tell them that between 6-9am on weekdays, the most overused and annoying phrase is “AM1290 and 95.7FM WHIO News Talk Radio.” They say it every 60 seconds.By vick

The word that I find the most annoying is “absolutely.” Have you noticed that on radio and TV whenever announcers are having a discussion that the first word spoken when one speaker follows another one is quite often “absolutely….?” It is a complete space filler and as such, it means virtually nothing. I find it absolutely annoying…By 58emod

I don’t mind young people saying ” like ” - it is part of their culture. Unfortunately business professionals use the word constantly in meetings and it sounds VERY unprofessional.
