Courthouse Square fountain to flow pink Thursday during ‘makeover’

Every wonder what color to paint the town? Try pink.

Dayton’s Courthouse Square, Third and Main streets, will be ‘painted’ pink 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, during an event kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Area agencies and hospitals will be on hand to share information about breast cancer prevention, early detection and treatment during the free event.

The ceremony begin at 12:15 p.m.

The courthouse square fountain will be flowing with pink water.

Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin, Montgomery County Commissioners Judy Dodge and Dan Foley and Oakwood Mayor Judy Cook will share messages.

Local breast cancer survivors will raise pink flags over the square. The flags will remain throughout the month of October.

I’m sorry, but while getting tested etc. for breast cancer is a noble deed, treatment is another matter. What about those without family nearby, who don’t have the resources, money, and who don’t have insurance to go through treatments? Not to mention disability insurance. How about those who must work or be homeless? I’ve watched too many go through treatment only to die in the end after months or years of “fighting”. I don’t want to be sick as a dog for months before dying as my father did. It is an evil disease, but I if I were to find I had cancer, I would rather have a few months of boundless joy than years of worry, nausea, and dread, ending in bankruptcy for my family.
