‘Project Runway’ contestant to speak at local Breast Cancer Awareness Month event
“Project Runway” contestant Althea Harper will be very busy when she swing by her hometown later this week.
First the Oakwood native will give a talk as part of the Stitching Post’s grand opening celebration 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at 101 E Alex Bell Road, Centerville.
The next day, Saturday, Oct. 3, the 25-year-old will help kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month at JennaClaire Handbag Studio, 4382 Juniper Way, Beavercreek, with a discuss that begins at 10 a.m.
Both events are free, but seating is limited.

Tickets will be issued first-come, first-served started at 8 a.m. JennaClaire Studio which is located in the Greene. The business will donate 5 to 10 percent of its profits collected in the month of October to the Women’s Wellness Fund.
A bag design by Harper will also be raffled during the month to raise funds for breast cancer.
Harper has been doing well on the show. On one recent episode, her work received praise from guest judge Tommy Hilfiger.
“That definitely made my day,” Harper said in a recent interview. “It definitely feels good to have someone recognize what you are doing.”
But it hasn’t all been so sweet. In another episode fellow contestant Irina Shabayeva ragged on Harper’s challenge-winning three-piece skirt suit, saying it would look better if she stapled it together.
Harper said the negative comment surprised her because she and Shabayeva got along. Still it wasn’t Earth shaking.
“It’s nothing that I am that upset about,” she said.

Show bizzness can be dangerous.
Conan O’Brien found that out Friday when he fell during a footrace with Teri Hatcher during a taping of the Tonight Show.
O’Brien was treated at the hospital and a rerun aired Friday.
Things seem back to normal now.
Everyone’s favorite super tall host laughed the whole thing off Monday, Sept. 28, and rolled the tape for the audience. Conan joked that he struck his head so hard “that for five seconds I actually understood the plot of `Lost.’”
