Report: Dayton drivers among safest in the nation. What do you think?
Despite the swerving sometimes seen on Main Street, Dayton drivers aren’t that bad in the grand scheme of things, a report says.
Dayton ranked 12th best in the fifth annual “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report” released Wednesday, July 8.
We’re not number one (that honor goes to Sioux Falls, South Dakota), but according to Allstate, the Gem City has safer drivers than 188 other large American cities.
Allstate’s report uses data to rank America’s 200 largest cities in terms of car collision frequency.
Fort Wayne drivers ranked sixth.
Dayton drivers have an average 11.6 years between accidents.
Drivers in Washington DC are the worse drivers. They have 5.1 years between collisions.
Akron was 18 on the list, Cleveland, 29; Cincinnati 62; and Toledo, 68. Columbus finished in a disappointing 87th place.
Drivers in Washington DC are the worse drivers.
“America’s Most Improved Driving City” is Alexandria, VA, the report says.
Here are the top safest cities according to the report:
- Sioux Falls, S.D.; 2. Fort Collins, Colo.; 3. Chattanooga, Tenn.; 4. Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 5. Knoxville, Tenn.; 6. Fort Wayne, Ind.; 7. Lexington-Fayette, Ky.; 8. Eugene, Ore.; 9. Boise, Idaho; 10. Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11. Reno, NV; 12. Dayton.

What do you think? Is AllState’s report crazy?

Ohio drivers do not have to take a driving test from age 16 to whenever they stop driving. Most do not remember the laws 2 weeks after they get their license. Most cops do not believe in turn signals and other things they will pull you over for.The best drivers are those who are driving under suspension. I’d rather drive in Dayton than Columbus or Cincy. Dayton, except for a few dingers, is a pretty safe place to drive.
