Reports: China blocks freedom of the Tweet

Like the free exchange of ideas on the Internet?

Celebrate that you don’t call China home.

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, China blocked Twitter and other social media sites on Tuesday, June 2, according to Chinese media site Danwei.

Flickr, Bing, Hotmail and Windows Live were also blocked, according to Reuters New Service.

YouTube, a video sharing site, has been blocked since March when graphic footage of China’s crackdown on Tibetan protesters were posted.

Hundreds of pro-democracy demonstrators died in Tiananmen Square in June 4, 1989 after challenging the Chinese government.
