Teen violence PSA recreates Brown’s attack on Rihanna

A DoSomething.org public service announcement recreates what allegedly happen the night singer Chris Brown attacked girlfriend Rihanna.

The video is based on police reports. See blog entry on police report here.

The PSA says that one in three teens are in abusive relationships.

Brown is charged with two felonies, assault and making criminal threats for what has been described as a vicious attack on Rihanna in February.

Still, statistics indicate that many children blame Rihanna for the incident.

Nearly half of the 200 kids who took part in a recent Boston Public Health Commission survey said Rihanna was “responsible” for the beating.

I don’t blame her for what happened, but do blame her for staying with him after what happened.

Amen, donkey man. This couldn’t have been the first time he hit her, either; otherwise, she’d have been as appalled as most of us are.

Good. Based on the response I have heard out of many people, especially our young people, they need a PSA to guide them back to reality. I was shocked to find out that the news story in this wasn’t that Chris Brown hit Rihanna, but that it is acceptable by so many. I am so naive. I knew that domestic abuse went on often, but I thought the attitude that it was acceptable was mostly a generational thing. To hear so many young men and women so quickly defend his behavior and to even ask “what did she do to deserve it?”… it’s so depressing. It makes me re-examine how much progress we’ve made in the last forty years.

I’m sickened that even 10 voted that Rihanna was to blame. No one - I repeat, NO ONE - deserves to be struck by another human being. She is an adult & has the right to voice her opinions or do as she pleases & should NOT have to answer to him or any other man. She’s a fool for staying with him.
