No joke, Ashford & Simpson to release “Solid as Barack”
Now they are solid as Barack.
The R&B act Ashford & Simpson has rearranged words to its 1984 hit “Solid (as a Rock)” to honor president-elect Barack Obama.
The song “Solid as Barack” was inspired by audiences and comes months after a “Saturday Night Live” sketch, according to McClatchy Newspapers.
It will be released via digital download on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20
Last year, audiences at Ashford & Simpson concerts changed words to “Solid” to reference to Barack Obama.
Just before the Nov. 4 presidential election, Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph parodied the song on SNL as Barack and Michelle Obama.
The song’s lyrics include the line “a new day dawning, the future looks, hot, hot, hot, hot!”
