Only one female remains in running for “American Idol”

Season 9 won’t be the same without Siobhan Magnus. From funky clothing and hair, to screaming vocals and crazy high notes, Siobhan brought something different to the “Idol” stage. Judge Kara DioGuardi once compared her star power to that of Season 8 superstar Adam Lambert; Simon Cowell called her a “funny little thing.” There’s no arguing she kept things interesting.

After 33 million votes, Siobhan Magnus was sent home this week.

Siobhan had some real hits this season, including “Think” (also her farewell performance) — and some terrible misses. Despite what the judges said, her performance of Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine “ was a little screechy — and the whole screaming at the end of songs got old pretty quickly.

I don’t think this setback will keep her from having a career, though. She’s just odd enough to make it in show business.

The bottom three also included Casey James (who had one of the best performances of this week) and Michael Lynche (who was saved from elimination a few weeks back with the judges’ one save of the season).

It’s interesting only one female, Ohioan Crystal Bowersox, remains in the competition.

Other “Idol” thoughts …

  • Some good performances tonight: Shakira with Rascal Flatts, Rascal Flatts solo, Lady Antebellum and Sons of Sylvia. The Shakira/Rascal Flatts collaboration, although a bit weird, actually worked — and it didn’t involve the country trio shaking their hips.

  • Oh well, with the vampire themed Ford video under her belt, maybe Siobhan can land a role in the next “Twilight.” She played the part well.

  • Next week’s theme: The songs of Sinatra with guest mentor Harry Connick Jr.

What do you think about the Top Five? Who do you want to see in the finale?

I’m rooting for Crystal and Lee. The other remaining contestants are all pretty good, but I think these two have been the most consistent and have the most potential to sell records — with Big Mike a close third.

And who would Michelle’s Top Fan rather see in the top three? Wu Tang Clan? Or the Murder Violence Syndicate, which hasn’t produced an album since they debuted several years ago? Prob all got deported or sent back to jail.

If the results were based upon talent, the final 3 would be Crystal, Mike, & Lee! Unfortunately, we know that this show has become a popularity contest the last 3 years, so Big Mike doesn’t have a chance - people like Michelle’s top fan don’t listen for talent, but rather their dislikes of the performers! SAD!SAD!SAD

I can see final three being Casey, Crystal and Lee. As for winner, I’d say Crystal, but when it comes to America voting, I think they’d go with Lee. And for Michelle’s Top Fan, you get points for being the best comment of the day. Great stuff!

Simon thought a woman would win this year. Odds are against it now, but I think Crystal, the lone remaining woman, is the best of the bunch. Aaron is overrated. Casey is relatively a one-note performer. Lee has ability but often doesn’t believe it, and Big Mike is liked but hasn’t had that “wow” moment.

Seriously? Big Mike third? Not a chance. How can you say that? He’s awful! I can’t believe we’ve been married almost nine years! It’s like I don’t even know you anymore! :)
