Which two “Idol” contestants should go home this week?
This week, two “American Idol” hopefuls will go home after the judges spared Michael Lynche from elimination last week with their one judges’ save of the season.
Who should it be after tonight’s performances? After last week’s surprising results, anything’s fair game.
It’s hard to live up to the King, but a few “Idol” hopefuls managed to put their own stamp on some classic Elvis Presleytunes.
Others, well, didn’t.
Crystal Bowersox
Song Choice: “Saved”
Judges comments: Randy said that it was like “the second coming of Bonnie Raitt.” Ellen said she sounded like a broken record but it was fantastic. Kara said it was another great Crystal performance, and Simon said what he loved is that she chose a song that suited her and that sounded authentic.
Overall impression: Crystal’s version of “Saved” could easily be a radio hit. She is consistently fabulous and a star in the making.
Grade: A
Andrew Garcia
Song Choice: “Houndog”
Judges comments: Randy said that was “not good karaoke.” Ellen wished he had put a little more swagger into the performance and that he pulled it off by changing the song. Kara said it’s Elvis and you have to own it and he didn’t. Despite some nice moments, she wanted more star power. Simon said it was lazy, unpredictable and the one part of a musical nobody wants to hear, not a star power and that all of his coolness has been sucked out of him.
Overall impression: I’m afraid Andrew is going home this week after that. I loved Andrew from the earlier audition rounds and Hollywood week, but since then he just hasn’t found his place on the “Idol” stage. It’s a shame.
Grade: C
Tim Urban
Song: “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
Judges comments: Randy said he actually liked it. Ellen compared Tim to shots of tequila (hmmm, odd). Kara said it was his best performance, current and heartfelt. Simon said Tim has gone from zero to hero in two weeks and has taken judges’ advice really well
Overall impression: I’m usually a big Tim critic, but this actually was a decent performance. There were some nice moments, and a couple cringe-worthy notes, but overall pretty good. This may be the first week I’m not demanding America send Tim home.
Grade: B
Lee Dewyze
Song: “A Little Less Conversation”
Judges comments: Randy said Lee is “in the zone.” Ellen said it sounded like a brand new song and that Lee’s confidence is building. Kara said the performance had great intensity in the vocals but needs to loosen up a bit. Simon said it was about nailing the song and it was right on the money.
Overall impression: Not quite as good as Crystal’s show-opener, but another example of how to make a song current and your own. Lee is another who is just consistently great.
Grade: A-
Aaron Kelley
Song: “Blue Suede Shoes”
Judges comments: Randy said it was half good and half not. Ellen said that was a big song to take on, but was pretty good. Kara said she liked that he was out of his comfort zone and it felt current and young. Simon said it was old-fashioned and karaoke-ish.
Overall impression: A good showcase of vocals, and better than last week’s poor showing, but I can’t imagine that as a modern-day hit. Simon’s absolutely right.
Grade: C
Siobhan Magnus
Song: “Suspicious Minds”
Judges comments: Randy complimented the vocals and said the second half was stronger. Ellen agreed the second half showcased her vocals. Kara said she wasn’t crazy about it and that Siobhan almost has two voices (one good, one not). Simon said the first part of the song was terrible and that overall the performance was erratic and screechy. He also said Siobhan has lost who she was a few weeks ago.
Overall impression: The judges were right on. A good vocal in the second half, but the first half was boring. This is another case of a performance that lacks relevance in today’s music world.
Grade: C+
Michael Lynche
Song: “In the Ghetto”
Judges comments: Randy said the song was a little sleepy, but the vocals were hot. Ellen said she’s glad they saved him. Kara said it was a great vocal. Simon said it was a terrific song choice.
Overall impression: Michael proved why he deserved a second chance with a strong vocal. It was a little boring, but vocally it was way better than many.
Grade: B
Katie Stevens
Song: “Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do?”
Judges comments: Randy said it was a nice vocal and entertaining performance. Ellen said it was a “horny” song (you know, with a lot of horns playing). Kara said she showed confidence. Simon thought it was loud and annoying and that he didn’t like it.
Overall impression: Katie has a really nice voice. The head movements were a bit much and the arrangement felt very loungy to me, but it was a solid performance. Katie has come a long way from the earlier weeks and seems to be more comfortable on stage and with who she is as an artist.
Grade: B-
Casey James
Song: “Lawdy Miss Clawdy”
Judges comments: Randy said the soul/blues vibe worked and it was another solid performance. Ellen said it wasn’t as exciting as she would have hoped. Kara said it fell short. Simon said that was a wasted opportunity.
Overall impression: It was a good vocal, but sort of a lackluster performance. I also expected more out of Casey.
Grade: B-
Which two contestants do you think should go home based on this week’s performances or their performances overall?
My vote: Goodbye Andrew Garcia and goodbye Aaron Kelly.
Stay tuned: On Wednesday’s results show, two to go home, plus a performance by this week’s mentor, Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert.

She screams, she’s weird, and gets mad when the judges slam her like they should have the past few weeks. Why do people think she’s that good? Mike should go home with her and definently Andrew. Aaron and Katie will be gone soon…Tim, Lee, Casey and Crystal will be left at the top with Crystal of Lee winning it all in May

whats the diff who goes tonight…all but Crystal and lee “should’ be gone eventually. Others got to go sometime….that Tim is even on the show makes the show even less credible than it was if thats possible.

I love watching Crystal, Siobhan and Lee. Most of the time I even like Casey and Katie. The rest, bleh. Ellen is just what the show needs, someone to lighten the mood give a fan’s perspective! She’s great, hope she stays!

I’m torn because I do think Crystal is good, however, she sounds the same every week….. I loved the week she played the piano but that’s the only week she has changed. I think Mike is a sweet guy, but can’t ‘hear’ him on the radio, and Siobhan is ok, but getting annoying….. Katie can sing but is getting annoying, and poor Andrew - he’s been lost for a long time now (not sure why he’s still there - sweet guy but..)I actually liked Tim last night.. my husband did not….. we’ll see I guess.

Tim was good and shouldn’t go home this week. Last night he had a fine performance, and something about him moves me. I really believe he does alot with what he has. I don’t think he is the best singer and won’t win the competition, but he’s definitely been a worthy opponent and well worthy of continuing in the competition. I’m hoping Lee is in the bottom 3 because I’m tired of him. He was good one week, but since then I haven’t liked him at all. He screams his notes and isn’t worthy of continuing. I also find his appearance slovenly, sort of sloppy. I’m not a fan of Lee.

Mike should have gone home last week—I think the judges wasted their one save. I think Mike will go home with Andrew (boring again) this week. Aaron is close to going home if he doesn’t step it up. Katie doesn’t do it for me, though I think she has potential. She’s also close to going home. Crystal should win—she gave me goosebumps last nite! And Casey, Casey can do no wrong. If he doesn’t win he’ll be runner up. Siobhan still has fans that will keep her yet another week. She has potential but is making bad choices.

The 2 best are Crystal and Lee and Michael should have not been saved last week.

The top 4 are Crystal, Mike, Lee, & Siobann - by far! Any of the others could/should go. If I had to choose from total of performances, it would be Andrew & Tim. Although Aaron & Katie wouldn’t surprise me. The sad reality though is the fact this show has become a popularity contest instead of talent-based, so Big Mike could be in trouble again! Sad, Sad, Sad!!

I’m thinking Andrew will be going home. His performance wasn’t strong at all. Other than that, I really can’t say who should be going. I think Tim should have been gone weeks ago, but last night’s performance wasn’t too bad and there were others that were worse than he was. Aaron should probably be the other one to go solely based on last night’s performances. Crystal and Casey should definitely be safe.

Andrew and Aaron should leave, based on this week’s performances. I won’t be surprised, though, to see a shocker or two at this point.

I agree. I would be upset if I saw, for example, Tim McGraw go onstage and do something so different from his normal “thing”. I like Crystal for what she does and how she does it. I don’t like Sioban either, she’s just a little too strange for me, and her last couple of performances were fair at best. See ‘ya Andrew and Siobhan or Aaron!

I’ll say it again, Siobhan is NOT that great and it has shown the past 3 weeks-time to say goodbye. Andrew was overrated from the start as well-bye to him too. Aaron will hang on another week or two as will Katie. Crystal is not boring-she performs and you know exactly what you’re going to get, good music, good voice every time. Just like watching any other successful musical recording artist today.

Personally- Ellen should go - what a terrible choice they made selecting her as a judge - can`t dance!! has no effective critic of idols & so now you 3 men & 1 woman judging - love Kara - she knows the music & please keep her - am turned off with Ellen so will not watch show!!!!!

Aaron Kelly gave the worst performance of the night, again. Talk about bad karaoke. Andrew was just as bad though. Later dudes. Crystal, Lee, and Siobhan were best tonight.

I agree that Crystal can sing but every week she is boring. She has the same monotonous style. The judges always give her exactly the same comments all the time. She needs to replace those missing teeth to keep on smiling.

I’m thinking Andrew and Katie will be going home. I’m still behind Siobhan, Lee, Casey and Crystal.

Aaron Kelly will not be going home, he has the teen/pre-teen votes carrying him. Besides, compare good to bad performance ratio and you’ll see he does not deserve to go. Tim, Siobhan, Katie, and Andrew should all go before him. This week, it will be Katie and Andrew…
