American Idol: Should Adam try to lose?
Some questions before American Idol’s final four contestants take to the stage:
Would Adam Lambert be better off as Idol’s winner or as a shocking loser?
I say Adam would rather lose than win. He’s already assured of a recording contract, and if he loses, he would have more control over his career. He wouldn’t have to do the contractually obligated first CD that Idol winners have to do. (C’mon, you remember those horrible songs the winners have to sing.)
He would benefit from the publicity that losing would bring. Think about all the bloggers and entertainment shows abuzz with news that King Adam had been dethroned before his coronation.
Is Danny Gokey the next Taylor Hicks?
I just don’t think Danny Gokey will be a popular music act. That said, I actually like him more than some of you who follow this blog faithfully.
Danny just doesn’t seem destined for mainstream success.
Who gets Matt Giraud’s votes this week?
Some of you believe that when one Idol contestant loses, those who supported that person most often, as a group, throw their support to someone else. So, Matt’s fans: who are you more likely to support now?
I would bet it is Kris Allen, in this case, with maybe some love for Danny or Allison Iraheta. I don’t see it being Adam, for sure. Does that mean Adam might be in the bottom two again this week?
Who is likely to benefit from this week’s theme?
Allison and Adam are the obvious beneficiaries of the rock theme this week. I think Kris could be OK with it, but Danny is the one who could suffer the most.
The guests on the results show Wednesday include the group Daughtry, whose frontman Chris Daughtry is musically the most successful Idol loser thus far.
So, what do you think? Should Adam lose and is Danny a Taylor Hicks in the making?

If Adam is voted off, allot of people, including me, will stop watching the show for the rest of this season. Danny is fine but he pales compared to Adam…listen to Mad World, that is pure classic and what Adam puts into his performance compared to Danny-dancing….pleeease!!

I agree, Rene - I can see different talents in each of the 4. And Kerry - tastes are totally subjective - not everyone likes the same thing and it’s silly to assume they should/would. I know people who hate watching/listening Adam just as passionately as you like him. That is what makes it a competition and keeps it interesting. I wasn’t trying to tell people not to vote for Adam - in fact I was saying that it wouldn’t hurt him AT ALL if he doesn’t win - which is actually a compliment. I prefer Danny myself - but my congratulations will go out to any of them that win because I think they are all talented in their own way.

It really doesn’t make any difference who “wins” or “loses” at this point. Like others have said, they all have their specific agreements with E19 in the coming months, and in time most of those who were in the top 10 will find some kind of success…not the level of Kelly, Carrie, Jennifer, Clay or Chris D., but success nontheless. Of the top 4 now, I think that they’re all fairly equal because each is so different from the other in style, etc. You really can’t compare them. Adam has the strongest voice and best stage presence. Allison is an excellent YOUNG female rock voice-the industry needs that. Danny could very well be successful in the country genre, and Kris has a “James Taylor” style which is a bit refreshing with all of the techno sounds these days. Why argue about it? They are all pretty good this season!

Adam would be better off trying to win. He wants to win and he deserves to win. Stop trying to influence peoples voting.

‘Daydreamer’ apparently needs to do his/her own research. As last year’s runner-up (David Archuleta, if you need me to specify) released his album one week earlier than the winner (David Cook). And for “AIfan”, nobody will ever top the queen of AI, Kelly Clarkson. It’s amazing how this show keeps going even though they continue to get worse contestants. Pop got their Kelly, country got their Carrie, rock got their Daughtry. All the genres in between are to finnicky to actually produce a solid star from a reality show. See blues (Taylor Hicks who was only good for his comical gimmick and was a long-time ‘Vote for the Worst’ contender.) When their biggest CD is their first CD, take notice that your favorite artist won’t be around for long. And can’t crack a million records with that first one: Where do they find these people (Kellie Pickler, Josh Gracin, Bo Bice [runner-up], Taylor Hicks [winner?!], David Archuleta [runner-up], Blake Lewis [Runner-up], Diana DeGarmo [runner-up])

Oh are you kidding? “He would benefit from the publicity that losing would bring”? Try double that publicity, and the TITLE as the winner! Losers (sorry) also have to wait for a certain amount of time before the winner’s CD is released before releasing theirs. Whatever the outcome of his Idol run, he IS going to be owned by 19E anyway, and he wants to win this thing. He’s emphasized that over and over again, and what we fans can do is VOTE to make his dream come true. Plus, don’t assume that 19E is stupid and will turn Adam into something that he’s not. Look at Carrie. Bottom line is, these “Adam is better off losing” arguments are bogus. ADAM FANS, PLEASE VOTE!! :)

Adam is there for the win. You could see it in his face as he waited in the bottom two. I will not second guess him and my family and I will vote until our fingers are numb. Danny gives me the creeps. Not only is Goeky not able to touch Adam vocally, did you ever look at him? I just cannot get past the yuk factor, especially when he tries to dance and does his vulgar attempt at a pelvic thrust. Adam moves around the stage like he owns it. Goeky has been the most overrated contestant this year. Your taste and your suggestions are dismal.

Actually it is the top 36 that are not free to go do whatever they want. Nick Mitchell said in an interview that is not free until August of this year to sign with anyone.

you are blatant with your bias against Adam. Of course he should try to win. Why would he go on the show if he didn’t want to win?! You Adam haters crack me up sometimes. lol

FACT IS those finalists that excelled professionally after losing are those that sing/perform better than the winners. So it does not make sense that Adam should lose because he is the best produce of American Idol, past and present. KEEP SUPPORTING ADAM LAMBERT!!!

You don’t seem to know much about the E19 contracts. The final 10 are all owned by E19 and are still under the E19 domain. The top ten cannot put out a record until the winner does. E19 has right of first refusal and there is no way in hell they are releasing a cash cow. Adam will not get the promotional support the winner does, yet E19 will get the profits. Do some research before you publish something you know nothing about.

Hey Ben - thanks for the anticipatory chatter blog! :) I remember how upset my “Chris fan”friends were when Chris was eliminated. At the time, I said, “Trust me - this is the best thing that could have happened to him.” This is the time for me to say, “told you so.” He won’t have a horrific album crammed down his throat with the cheesy Idol back-up singers like Taylor did for his first album. He did manage to get out of putting that first single that they made him record on the album. As has been established - I absolutely love Taylor and his voice so I could listen to him endlessly and loved it anyway. I wonder where those millions that voted for him have gone - he was never even in the bottom! But it was far from a mainstream album - so I dunno. I really liked Daughtry’s album when I first listened to it, but I found that it didn’t stand up for me and I got reeeeeeally tired of it. Now if I hear one of his songs I change the station - I can’t even stand to listen to it. Anyway - yes - I think Adam would be better off losing! Unfortunately, I do see Danny as another Taylor (probably why I like him!) because he doesn’t fit into a tidy niche. I am dying to see what he does with tonight’s theme. I think he would do a great job with a Journey song - especially if he calls up that “growl” that he brought out last week. As for Matt fans votes going elsewhere - maybe, maybe not. I know for me, if Danny were to be eliminated, then I would just stop voting because I wouldn’t care who would win - I wouldn’t bother to vote for someone else. Should be interesting!!!

I think Danny could be more successful than Hicks if he takes a more country route. Think back to when he sang that Rascal Flatts song. It was a great performance. Now there is a good niche and a lot of people like that band, even non-country fans. If he put out an album like that I bet he would do well. Problem with Adam is, he is good and interesting but his flamboyance alienates some of the audience.

I think Adam is the most talented and has been the leader for most of the time. I think his fans will organize and get him voted back on top. Yes, Gokey and Chris would both turn out to be another Taylor Hicks. Allison doesn’t have what it takes (compare her to Carrie or Jennifer). Adam is the best bet for success because he is so versatile.

I have to agree with you Ben, but the show wouldn’t be as interesting to watch if he does go. Adam should be good winning or losing. I think Danny if he does win would either sing gospel or contemporary, and he could possibly be the next Taylor Hicks, maybe a lil better. Kris or Allison will definitely get Matt votes because there are people out there who vote for the underdog. Allison and Adam will benefit from this week’s theme. I think the one who will suffer is Kris. Danny has that raspy voice the will benefit him. Kris is such a laid back singer, he has really gotta step out of his box.

I have to agree Adam would be better off losing, to have better control over his recording contract. I would be more apt to buy his own music, then some crappy cd that the idol will make him do. So, to you Adam; You win if you lose, and you lose if you win!

I have to agree. Adam would likely be better off losing. I think he’d probably still make a great album but I’d be willing to bet he gets at least a few big Broadway/acting offers. Though he would make a perfect guest on one of the CSI shows… ;) Danny is definitely the next Taylor Hicks… though probably worse off. To his fans I ask: What kind of CD would he even make? Really. As a Matt fan, my votes will now be going to Kris. I’ve liked (and voted for) him all along as well but he’ll get the calls that would’ve gone to Matt. I’ll probably vote for Allison and Adam some too though. I kind of hope that rock week makes people realize that Danny’s not a star in the making… rather he’s just a guy who doesn’t sing (or dance) all that well.
