American Idol’s greatest performance ever!!!!

It’s the girls turn and even though I still haven’t gotten a chance to watch the guys this week, I heard they weren’t so great. From the review they had at the beginning of the show tonight it looked like there were at least a couple of stand outs. What did you think?

Stephanie Edwards Simon compared her to a 1930’s singer at her audition and can see that but I think she could hold up to anyone you would hear on any Top 40 radio station today. If Stephanie was nervous, you couldn’t tell. A natural born performer as well as singer.

Amy Krebs This is one of my favorite songs so once she sang a few bars I didn’t have a lot of hope. There were a few bright spots, but overall she tried a song that was a little over her ability. She never communicated it; I never got the feeling that she was living the song verses performing it.

Leslie Hunt Let me say right off the bat that I love this chick’s jewelry. I also love this chick’s voice. She seemed a little put on or corny during her performance but at least she demonstrated some personality. This one has potential and I hope she sticks around a while to wow us. You’re all going to think I’m nuts but Simon said that Leslie was out of her comfort zone and I say she’s kind of like an ex-ugly tomboy who had plastic surgery and can’t quite get used to her pretty new dimples and girly skin, hair, body and clothes.

Sabrina Sloan Yes, yes, yes, this one has risen to the top of my favorite female list. She knocked me off my feet and probably every male in the room as well. I have to say though, I hate the hair. The tiny curls are too average and need to go. Here is a situation where I can’t wait to see what the stylists will do with her once she reaches the Top 12. And she will be in the Top 12!

Antonella Barba Antonella wasn’t spectacular but I think she has more potential than some of the others we’ve seen. There were some nerves in play but again, I didn’t really feel like she could identify with what she was singing. After the judges dinged her I couldn’t tell if she was hurt by the comments or just offended.

Jordin Sparks This girl has a lot of maturity in her performance and voice for a 17 year old. We have a competition ladies and gentleman! I predict a Top 12 finish for this girl too. She’s adorable and as my man Simon said she is full of natural talent.

Hey folks we’re half way through the Top 12 girls and while we have a break I want to remind you to visit our Online Idol page and vote on your favorite in our Online Idol contest. AND you can also vote on your favorite guys and gals in the American Idol running.

I haven’t seen any chat or comments on our very own local talent. There are lots of votes so we know some of you are checking them out. What do you think? Who is your favorite so far? I’ll be honest. My favorites didn’t make it into the top two each week. I don’t know if the winners have more support and voters or I’m just a little deaf.

Nicole Tranquillo As a voice major I expected much better. Bad, bad song choice for Nicole. She tried to perform but it felt really fake unlike a couple of the girls before her. I think the range of the song was too low and too high for her. Yick.

Haley Scarnato Can’t these girls listen to the advice of the judges about attempting the big stars stuff? She tried to sing Celine Dion and failed miserably. I didn’t think her voice was all that great. Again with the girls singing what they want instead of what is best for them. Not a wise move dismissing the judge’s opinion because at some point in this competition, you’re going to need them girly.

Melinda Doolittle Melinda picked an Aretha song, usually a mistake at this point, but wow did she nail it. A good choice for her and obviously the judges loved it too. Another favorite of mine…Top 12 here, Top 12. And Simon had a great point. So many of these folks have come out so arrogant, even following a mediocre at best performance and Melinda is like one confident lady while she’s singing and kind of timid and anything but arrogant when she’s not. I’m going out on a limb here. Top 6 for this one, probably even higher.

Alaina Alexander Sometimes she was really good and sometimes she was really really bad. A couple real sour notes in this one. But she could probably do okay with the right song. So is Ryan trying to date her? They would actually make a pretty cute couple.

Gina Glocksen I had such great hopes for this girl ever since I first saw her audition. A little different from the typical American Idol if you look at the “image” of Clarkson and Underwood but I would buy a CD from her and anxiously watch her career. She delivered tonight. Top 6 contender. Top, top, top…no matter what Simon said. I think this was one of those cases where he thought she was really good but wanted to push her harder to be that much better.

LaKisha Jones Oh my goodness! Talking about choosing a big song. Up for an Oscar next week by another American Idol and she’s all the talk of the town and you can’t help but compare. I have to be honest here…this is the first time this season that I’ve gotten the tingles. I literally got the tingles listening to LaKisha. I ran the DVR back and listened again and got tingles again!!! Brave, daring, a home run!!!!!!! This one could make it to the finals!!!!!!!! Well they saved the best for last and I cannot wait until next week to here LaKisha sing again!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness and she looked gorgeous.

I’m a huge Melinda fan! Lakisha was great, but I like Melinda’s style better. What a voice! Go Melinda! Go ladies!

So what did LaKisha sing? I didn’t get to see it because Wednesdays are my date night. :) But after watching Tuesday night - it sucked so badly that I was prepared to tune it out this season. It was cheesier than a Kraft factory. Not a single one of them was worth watching, and I never was impressed with the female crop that much, so I wasn’t really interested in watching them. LaKisha was a standout for me, but we hadn’t really gotten to see her that much prior to last night. And WHY did Sundance make it through? His audition went well - but he has SUCKED ever since! I don’t think he deserved to get through to this point at all!

And one of the greatest things about both LaKisha and Melinda Doolittle is that they are beautiful people. They seem very humble and grateful to have this chance where as some of the others seem almost entitled. I’m such a sap, I love it when the good guys (gals in this case) win!!! These two have already won because no matter how far they go this season I’ll bet dollars to donuts that they already have people in the music business contacting them.

She is the one to be reckened with! She will go all the way. ALSO Melinda Doolittle was VERY GOOD also those are my top two favorites and I see good thing ahead for these young ladies.

Kelle, we agree on LaKisha and Jordin. I just can’t see much talent in Antonella. The women rule this season, with only three or four guys worth much of anything.

OH MY GOODNESS, that LaKisha is something else. She struck me as the best I have ever heard on AI. And I’m surprised Simon didn’t make a comment comparing her over Jennifer Hudson! I enjoyed the womens performances over the men by a long shot, but I have a feeling the men will step it up next week. I think we are in for a good season.
