‘American Idol’ fans say Bye-Bye Bucky!

It was past time for Bucky Covington to go but he’s grown on me and I am a little sadder than I expected. I was convinced it was going to be Ace right until they announced it. Bucky is just very sweet. He’s so real and southern and sweet. I’ve never been a huge fan of his singing voice, but I’m a big fan of his!

So Ace. I have to confess that during the last commercial of the show I wrote a heart felt goodbye paragraph. That’s how convinced I was that he was gone. Can’t say I’m disappointed he around for one more week, especially after he looked kind of vulnerable and hot in the wife beater and jeans tonight. I still don’t have any expectation of him winning, but with Rod Stewart next week, he may be able to pull out a good performance and hang on. My fingers and toes are crossed.

Elliot in the bottom three? Randy was absolutely correct, massive confusion reigns in America. I admit I have a huge tender heart and I could have easily shared a tissue with Elliot after the well wishes from his Mom. And the fact that he was so touched brought him up a notch in my book. Hey, for those of you who are not familiar with Diabetes…over 700! It’s amazing this kid is alive.

Why, oh why the dorky montage of Queen songs? I knew it was coming and it was tolerable when the Idols sang their brief solos but when they sang as a group? Fingernails on the high school choir’s chalkboard. With a whole hour tonight they obviously needed to fill some time. Simon juggling their red Coca-Cola glasses would have been more entertaining. Okay, that’s a bit harsh, but just a bit.

Question: Did anyone think Chris’ brother looked like he came from another gene pool? You could tell Ace was one of five brothers. Nice looking family. But Chris and his brother looked so different. And speaking of Chris, didn’t he remind you a bit of Dave Navaro when they flashed photos of his black hair and goatee? With or without hair, Chris is the epitome of a rocker.

Our polls showed the following: Favorite Chris Daughtry 21% Taylor Hicks 20% Kellie Pickler 17% Katharine McPhee 14% Elliott Yamin 10% Paris Bennett 8% Bucky Covington 7% Ace Young 3%

Vote Off Ace Young 31% Bucky Covington 31% Paris Bennett 15% Kellie Pickler 9% Katharine McPhee 5%
Elliott Yamin 4% Taylor Hicks 4% Chris Daughtry 1%

Rod Stewart next week, with a twist. The finalists will sing one of the classics that Rod has recorded over the last several years. Wonder who is in trouble this time? I’ll see if I can find a leak on song selection again; however, I think Idol leaked it this week to hype the show. And it worked so I hope they do it again.

Bucky should have stayed longer. If you couldn’t understand him talking, it is because you are either the typical midwesterner monotone voice or from Cali or the Northeast with your own flavorful accent. Don’t down the boy for having a country accent, Ryan needs to adjust. North Carolina has produced 3 of the bottom 8 (more than any other state). North Carolina has also produced Clay Aiken and Fantasia, so it seems to me, you should try to listen and understand the southern accent.

Well - I’ll say it - I hated to see Bucky go. I would rather have seen Paris or Elliot -or of COURSE - Kellie go - or even Ace for that matter. At least Bucky entertained me. It’s so interesting to see how different people’s tastes run. I keep reading about all this talent that Elliot has, and I don’t see it at all - he bores me to tears. But it’s a majority rules situation, and there are many top-selling artists that I don’t get either! You can’t please all the people… I reckon Elliot, Paris and Ace will be the ones to go in the coming weeks, not necessarily in that order and unless someone else totally bombs.

You guys are truly killing me. If it weren’t for this blog, I would let this show go. Liz, you have it completely right. Bo should have won last season. After Carrie butchered the Pat Benatar song, she should have been gone. How can these “Idols” continue to win. First Carrie, now Kellie. I would think that at the very least they could learn the words to the songs they plan to sing to millions of listens. Kellie butched Melissa Etheridges song and this week she forgot the words again… How can she not be in the bottom three?

I have to disagree with both a comment made by Liz and a comment by Rob. (and keep in mind, we are all entitled to our opinions) The comment was made the Bo should have won over Carrie last year. I strongly disagree. Did you hear Bo sing live a few weeks ago? If he’d been competing at that point, he’d been voted off. It was horrible! I’ve never heard Carrie give a bad performance, live or otherwise. She just picked up her first CMT award this past week and has had a No. 1 hit on the charts for weeks. What has Bo done? I did hear a couple songs off his CD, but I wasn’t that impressed that he sold out to the pop world to make a record. Carrie spans not only the country charts but also the pop charts, a lot like Faith Hill or Shania….mass appeal. To Rob’s comment about Elliot not having appeal….I think his presence on stage is growing every week. The more I see him, the more I love him. Given time, I think he’ll be great on stage and his appeal will grow, if he’s given the chance. Don’t you remember how Carrie Underwood looked like a deer caught in headlights for the first part of last year. Can’t say that now, and I’m not even a country music fan!

Don’t get me started with the name calling again today, Rob! Elliott is so sweet, vulnerable and REAL, it makes me root for him, and the fact that he can sing so well is just icing on the cake. Iam sick to death of Kellie Picklehead and her “snotrag” comments. She’s pretty, i’ll give you that, but she’s not real. She’s fake and phony, which is a shame, since her grandpa seems so sincere and goodhearted. Chris with hair did look a lot like Dave Navarro, in fact, i like him better with hair (not that i’d kick him out either way). I wish Paris or Ace had gone last night. I was starting to get all warm and fuzzy for bucky, after seeing his family video. Next week….hopefully we’ll be saying bye-bye to Paris, or better yet, Kellie. Fingers crossed.

Elliot was in the bottom three because ultimately this isn’t just a contest based on singing talent. They also need to connect with the audience and let’s face it, Elliot has the personality and stage presence of block of wood. Stick a CD of him singing in a boombox, stick it on stage and hit “Play” and you’ll get essentially the same performance he’d give you. He’d be great recording in the studio but I just can’t see him working out as a live performer.

So Riddle me this Idol fans, Elliott in the bottom 3? America picks Kelly, Reuben, Fantasia and Carrie (should have been Bo, but ok) so why do they start to tag off truly great singing talent? I just don’t get it. Bucky had to go but bottom three should have been Pickler, Ace and Bucky.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! I was doing my little happy dance when Bucky’s name was called last night! I was so excited - then shocked - then wished I had Not an Idol Fan’s phone number so I could call and gloat! LOL I am unlike you Kelle and I’m not sad to see Bucky go. Yes, he might be a nice person - but, like Ryan - couldn’t understand what he was saying! I was nervous at the bottom three. I thought America was going to screw it up again and vote off Elliott. I was worried there for a minute. Next week should prove to be interesting again. I’m really wondering what Chris will do - I think he’s one that might have the hardest time with the selection of songs. But, yes - Chris’s brother - I’m thinking adoption! LOL

I’m totally shocked that Ace is still there. I thought for sure he was leaving tonight or my second guess was Bucky. I agree Kelle, that Bucky is very sweet and southern and I’ll miss him, even though, like Ryan, I can’t understand most of what he says. Elliott in the bottom three???? Why! This kid can whale—-he truly has a set of pipes that can blow most people away. It’s fun watching him each week come out of his shell and grow into a star right before our eyes. I love Chris and Taylor, but Elliott is making his own space on my list. I really think a guy will be the American Idol this year—-now it’s just a questions of which one?
