Lisa leaves but no one is really safe on ‘American Idol’

I don’t think anyone was surprised that Lisa Tucker left this week. Watching her review from the beginning of the season, I’m reminded that she really is very talented. She just needs a little maturity and life experience to add to her technically proficient voice.

Her parents were busting with pride and Lisa handled herself with such elegance for a teenager, as did Kevin Covais last week. So much better than Ayla Brown when she left.

My jaw dropped when Ryan announced Katharine McPhee’s name in the bottom three. Over Bucky? He was pretty good this week, but I felt that she had a real solid performance as usual. Are people not voting because they figure she’s safe or is she not leaving enough of an impression? And shocking to some, I’m loosing my fascination with Ace Young. Come on dude…don’t prove my instincts about you were dead wrong. I still have hope.

Based on how we bloggers voted…and we’ve had a perfect record so far this Top 12…Katharine should NOT be in the bottom three and Bucky should. Hey, by the way we had record number of votes on our poll again this week with just over 1700 votes (up 8%).

Taylor Hicks 22%

Chris Daughtry 20%

Bucky Covington 2%

Who we wanted voted off

Katharine McPhee 2%

Taylor Hicks 2%

Elliott Yamin 2%

Chris Daughtry 1%

Now let’s talk about Shakira. Obviously, her Hips Don’t Lie. Wow! She’s gorgeous and sexy and she can actually sing live. This is not a given with today’s recording artists. I’ve seen her videos and mildly pondered buying her CD, but I will probably hit Amazon.com after I’m done here.

Hey folks, it’s country next week. I can’t wait to see what Ace, Katharine, Chris, and Paris come up with. This should be good.

I wasn’t surprised to see Lisa go. I really hope folks step it up in the next few weeks though. I’m getting kind of bored with it all!

I called Lisa going home - no surprise there. She is sweet as can be and has a great voice but she has been extremely inconsistent and not sounding too great. Ironically, I thought her farewell performance was better than the previous night - but still had its bad spots. She just needs some maturity and she’ll be fine. I was shocked to see Katherine in the bottom 3. I do see the points about weaknesses in her performance - but I sure wouldn’t have put her that low. At least she can sing. I have been harping on her wardrobe - her stage look STINKS and she needs to work on connecting better with the audience - she is having the problem that Elliot did. It’s coming off as an audition for a Broadway director - not as an energetic pop performance meant to thrill an entire audience. Ace is getting kinda weird - the shaking hand thing was silly. And he has that deer in the headlights look too - like the lights are on but no one’s home or something. Next week is country - hmmm- should be interesting - how will Chris work around this one? I think he should do Shameless - that is a powerful balad suited to his vocals. Show us you’ve got it in you. Katherine should do a Faith Hill tune maybe. And wasn’t Georgia on My Mind released as a country song? That would be a good choice for my man Taylor. :)

Katherine should not have been in the bottom three. BUT, get off Bucky’s back. That was the best performance he has given yet. I don’t think he is the greatest. But, give me a break. I am tired of defending him. He was not one of the worst three this week. Ace and Lisa deserved to be in the bottom three….but KELLIE should have gone home. Give me a freakin’ break. I’ve had dogs that could sing better than her.

Yep, that was a big surprise when Katharine was put in the bottom three. The other two, not so much! Just goes to show that you have to vote - which I didn’t this week for the first time! It was sad to see Lisa go. I’ve always liked her, but the last few weeks have not been good for her. She’ll make though - so, not worried about her. And I agree with you Kelle about Ace - I was just telling someone right before I read your blog that I’m really getting over my Ace “thing”. I’m sure it won’t last with America either. I’m not thrilled that next week is country - not only because I am NOT a country music fan, but also because it will probably seal it for Kellie (gag) and Bucky (bigger gag) to last another week. Have a feeling we’ll be saying goodbye to Ace next week.

I was shocked by Katharine being in the bottom three too, mostly because she’s so much better than the other residents of the back row. I know Ace is gorgeous, but the scar-bearing was a bit much for me. As always, I was outnumbered at my house in my prayers that Kellie Picklehead would be gone, especially after I read the stuff on the link Kelle put up yesterday, but if there’s any fairness in it all Chris, Taylor, Mandisa, Elliot and Katharine will outlast her…and her suds

I knew Lisa was gone this week. She seemed really okay about it though. I got the feeling that maybe she wanted to go…do you think she could have picked a song she knew she couldn’t do well on purpose? At sixteen she had to be feeling out of place and missing her family. Lisa is good, she just needs some time. I was completely shocked when Ryan S. called Katharine into the bottom three. I like Bucky, but seriously! AI is really mixing it up with the voters next week. With country as the theme there is no doubt in my mind that Bucky and Kellie will be safe once again but I am afraid that some of my favorites might struggle a little (Mandisa, Paris, maybe even Taylor) unless they find that perfect song. Can’t wait till next week!

I was totally shocked while watching Idol when Katherine and Bucky were sitting together waiting on Ryan to announce the last one in the bottom three. You could have knocked me over with a feather when he said Katherine instead of Bucky. What the heck?????? Bucky has a certain honesty (yes, Sir…Thank you) kind of charm, but he can’t sing—at least not at the level of Chris, Taylor, Mandisa or Katherine. I just don’t get it…. I agree that Katherine comes off as aloof or overconfident. Perhaps it’s because her mother is a vocal coach and she knows she’s got the talent — I’m not sure, but regardless, she’s very talented and shouldn’t be relinquished to the bottom 3 just yet. We need to get rid of the so-so talent of Ace, Bucky, Kelly and Paris first — then the real competition starts. Country next week??? We know Kelly and Bucky will be in heaven, but what’s the rest of them gonna sing? Taylor and Chris will be OK, but I fear for the rest of them doing country. I guess we’ll just have to tune in next week and see, huh?

No way did Katharine deserve to be in the bottom 3! She was one of the only ones that sounded good this week!

I’m not surprised Lisa went home, although Bucky should have been in the bottom three! I do agree with Bryan, that Katherine comes off as aloof. I’m very much looking forward to country week - I think it’ll be great! And yeah, if I could have anyone’s body, it would be Shakira! She’s my new inspiration while I work out…

Katharine was nearly voted of because she comes across as an ice princess, superior and aloof. Elliott - a voice like buttah.

I knew Lisa was going home, that was no surprise and Ace can only ride on his good looks for so long. But Katharine? America, what were you thinking? People, people, people, we have got to vote for the ones we like, don’t assume anything. All of them. That being said, I have to say that I agree with Simon, and I really really hate to agree with Simon, but there was not an outstanding performance last night and it could have been any of them. Woohoo, Kellie Pickler made it another week! Soap suds and all.
