Bottom three on ‘American Idol’ stinks!
Melissa McGhee goes home? She was not perfect by any means this week but there are much worse in this competition. As much as I love this show, my frustration is stewing.
The bottom three…Ace Young, Melissa McGhee and Lisa Tucker? Come on, as adorable as Kellie Pickler is, Lisa outperformed her by a mile. How can you compare Melissa’s lyrics oops with the Pee Wee dancing Kevin Covais? Anyone have a remotely logical explanation for this? Please!
We DDN.com fans had more sense than the rest of America with 48% of us wanting Chicken Little to GO HOME!!!
So how did we do overall?
The vast majority of us wanted Kevin to be voted off with Bucky Covington coming in a distant second. Melissa was third.
Going Home
Kevin Covais 48%
Bucky Covington 14%
Melissa McGhee 9%
Ace Young 8%
Kellie Pickler 7%
Lisa Tucker 4%
Paris Bennett 4%
Elliott Yamin 2%
Mandisa 2%
Katharine McPhee 1%
Taylor Hicks 1%
Chris Daughtry 0%
Our favorites are quite clear with the strong leaders being Chris and Taylor. The rest of group kind of hanging around considerably below that. Interesting observation. Melissa, Ace and Lisa were three of our four least favorite.
Our Favorites
Chris Daughtry 28%
Taylor Hicks 26%
Katharine McPhee 11%
Mandisa 7%
Kellie Pickler 6%
Paris Bennett 5%
Kevin Covais 4%
Elliott Yamin 3%
Melissa McGhee 3%
Ace Young 2%
Bucky Covington 2%
Lisa Tucker 2%
760 votes were cast for favorite Idol 612 votes cast to vote off
Thanks so much for voting! Obviously we have more sense than the rest of the country so I guess we just need dial those phones more!
Let’s end with a little Idol gossip. Looks like Kellie Pickler’s jail bird father has come out of the wood work to show support for his daughter. Interesting timing don’t you think? He is set to be released on May 12 from the Florida prison where his 45 month prison term for felony battery and aggravated assault will be complete. He claims that despite what people think he and Kellie are very close. Oh…is that why he wrote a letter to the the Stanly News and Press in Albemarle, N.C. to announce his support rather than contacting Kellie directly? Things that make you go hmmmm.
Watch tomorrow on Fox Reality for the behind the scenes coverage of tonight’s show. I’ll be watching.

I agree Sean, having the bloggers to talk things over with make it all more interesting! And Heather - I couldn’t help myself - I responded to Ron’s blog. I was so annoyed though - I accidentally hit enter right in the middle of a sentence - ARGH!!! LOL. OH well. You know me - rarely at a loss for words! Anyway - DANG - I was amazed at the venomous attack. I actually found it funny too - do we have some repressed performance anger here or something? I really liked the part about the judges being “talentless hacks” that couldn’t cut it in the entertainment industry themselves. Does he even know who they are and what they do? To imply that you have to HAVE talent to recognize it is ludicrous. I had two words for him on that - Barry Gordy - just for instance. Apparently since Mr. Gordy didn’t have a string of gold records himself, he had absolutely NO business deciding who had talent and how they should develop it. Wow - good thing he didn’t know that, huh? Besides - how CRUEL is it to sit these kids on a piano bench next to Stevie Wonder - for starters - and allow them to receive constructive feedback directly from this musical legend? Yeah, Ron - AI is about nothing but public humiliation all right. I have no idea how we stand watching this inhumane cruelty every week! As my teenager would say…whatever.

Sean, thanks for the kind words and I absolutely agree that the readers/bloggers are responsible for adding luster to my Idol season as well. However, I cannot agree with your assessment of this season as lackluster. I must admit some nights are better than others, some performances better than others, but overall, I’ve been thoroughly entertained. I love your “pain feels so goodâ€? analogy though. There are many people who watch the show for the undiscovered talent, but there’s probably as many who only watch it for the humiliation factor, particularly in the first several weeks. Let’s face it; we’ve all had that moment in our life when we have felt crawl under the table embarrassed. Perhaps the reason these shows are so compelling is that it allows us to feel superior for just a moment. I think it’s called a “guilty pleasure.”

I’m the 28th comment? That is amazing. Nice to know so many people are checking out the blog! Not too surprising that Melissa is gone. I didn’t catch her lyric snafu while it was going on, so I thought she covered well - although if it had been me I would have KEPT covering when Randy asked me what he was going to say first - not blurt out my mistake! Not sure that would have saved her, but we will never know. I found the poll results interesting. Yes, almost half of us want Kevin to be voted out, but he still came in 7th out of 12 in the Favorites poll. If these numbers are at all similar to the real numbers, we’ll be seeing Kevin for weeks to come. If you are a regular blog reader, you may know that Chris is my favorite, however, I will be putting Elliott’s number on speed dial as well. I think he has too much talent to go home early. And as for Ace, he needs to learn from this week and step it up. (aside to Kelle: Maybe a haircut would help!)

I really like American Idol. I would have to say that Kellie Pickler is my favorite person because she is really a good inspiration for people that do not have much at all. She has inspired me and many other girls!

I’ve been rather absent from these blogs the last couple of days - not for a lack of interest or opinion, mind you! I was ticked last night at the results, but what else is new? Like I said before, America is stupid. Which brings me to my point of this post. Apparently, all of us here that are faithful Idol’ers are too. Have you seen Ron Rollins take on American Idol and his hatred of it? Please check it out! It’s his Braindroppings blog under Reality Bytes. Braindroppings is a good word for it. He seems to think American Idol is a terrible show and he drones on and on about it. I, for one, had to laugh as I read it. Does he not realize that the majority of people that go on that show KNOW that they’re bad and are going to be criticized? I can guarantee that there is a VERY large percentage of people just going on to be seen on TV. So, that’s their problem if they’re humiliated! Anyway, just thought I’d point you guys to his blog and see what you think. I am personally not going to respond to his - I wouldn’t want him to get the satisfaction of having any more page views to his blog!

Ok, I read this every time I get the chance, but I never thought I’d be chiming in….but I was also shocked that Kevin is still in the running. He’s ridiculous and everyone knows he’s way out of his league. Maybe Ace got knocked down a few pegs last night, he sure looked like he was about to cry. I hope it taught him a lesson or two about getting by on his looks. Looks don’t matter in this show. Chris is hot AND he can sing. Taylor is cute as he can be and he really did a great job this week. They’re my favorites, have been from the start. Let’s hope all the little girls get grounded this week and can’t vote next week, and Kevin will just be a memory for the bloopers show.

Rob has a great point - and I noticed the same thing. Apparently it’s not really that Lisa is someone that people DON’T like - she just doesn’t have the fan base that people are voting FOR her. I have often wished that I could vote AGAINST someone - I think the results would be different as our poll showed. And Kevin is the #1 person we’d want off - yet he isn’t even in the bottom 5 on our favorites list! Apparently that is what’s happening on a national level as well. Interesting!

Although I fell asleep through the show (by accident), I was very upset when I checked www.americanidol.com this morning, and saw the results. Yes, Melissa may have forgotten her words; however, she didn’t deserve to be voted off the show. Kevin needs to go!

Bo Bice was in the bottom 3 once or twice, so I’m not too worried about Ace and Lisa. Melissa, Girl, when you get to this stage of the game - got to remember the lyrics. Shot herself in the foot on that one. It’s funny to watch the transformations once the dressers and stylists get into the picture. Katharine looked totally re-done. Her eyebrows were plucked to a fine line. Mandisa looks great, I love the outfits and her hair. Ace, sad to say, needs some kind of wardrobe change. His voice is ok but if they can play up his looks - he’ll last awhile longer. Then theres Kevin. What else can be said about this pseudo singer? Come on America - It’s 3 weeks past the time to say goodbye to the geek.

This is my first post so i have to say, I love this blog. I have to praise Kelle for covering Idol this season like it’s never been covered before. And, to all of you devoted idol bloggers … you are helping to add luster to an otherwise lackluster season. OK, on to my comment. A lot has been said of our friend Chicken Little and it appears everyone, at least here and in various national polls, wants him gone. But, evidently America doesn’t agree. People are speculating this is the work of rogue voters who are voting for the worst singer, but that is not the case. Kevin has made it this far, and will go even further, because Kevin makes us feel like we just intentionally bit down on the inside of our mouth. And, although it hurts at first, we keep biting because for some reason the pain feels so good. I was just talking to a good friend of mine who put it this way “… Idol fans enjoy watching Kevin (and are voting for him) for the same reason they enjoy watching the Idol auditions … it is entertaining to watch people humiliate themselves.â€? And, that’s true. So, whether it’s the pleasure/pain we seek, or the joy of watching somebody else get humiliated, America has voted, and Kevin’s our man.

Ok, first for me too, BUT KEVIN still standing NO WAY. Apparently there are way too many deaf people voting this year, oh maybe blind too. C’mon the kid is cute but so is my 2 year old. American idol? not….So sorry Ace your dreamy eyes have worn off, not surprised to see you in the bottom, thought Lisa shouldn’t be there..yet. next week Kevin or Bucky out of here…PLEASE!!!

You need to keep in mind that the voters aren’t voting for who they want kicked off, they’re voting for their favorites, so America’s vote didn’t really differ that much from the results of the poll.

I’m not surprised that Kevin is still there! Why? Because Paula gushes over him everytime he’s on stage and little girls like Paula, so they text message and phone in their votes. I truly wish Paula would come off of what “happy I Love Everybody” cloud that she’s current floating on and be more realistic. She acts like she a 14 year old fan….

Chris is by far the best and Taylor a close second. I would love to see either of them take it all. As far as the women go, Mandisa is tops! Ms. Mcfee is just too fake and cutesie for me. I really do think that Kevin has the “granny vote” because he is so ridiculous! Ace deserved to be there - he hasn’t sounded good since “Father Figure” the first week. I am looking for him to go soon too. This is a singing contest! Elliot is amazing too, but I can’t see him winning. “Min-Vin” as we call him (Chris) will be fighting with Taylor at the end if I have any say! Kevin….you have got to go! Your “I am so cool and sexy now” attitude is really annoying and it will catch up to you soon!

I’m with you all. I don’t think Melissa was the best vocalist, but she was by far A LOT better than Kevin. I don’t understand what America sees in him. And no matter what anybody says, he is not the sex symbol that HE thinks he is!

Kelle, I agree. While the voting is perplexing, I do not think it is rigged. I believe they do have auditors to check the vote counts. I think the problem lies with the type of people who will vote a zillion times — young girls. Kevin does not deserve to be there, but his voting fan base is fervent. It is a shame.

Plus - remember last year when they messed the numbers up on the voting and everyone had to vote again the next night? If it was truly fixed, I don’t think they would have worried about having everyone vote again. They could have avoided a huge headache there.

Nan. Welcome aboard! You are not the first to say you think the voting is fixed. However, I cannot believe that for a couple of reasons. 1) They have to have people who oversee and regulate these things and 2) I don’t think I could continue to watch it if I thought it was fixed. That would devastate me. I don’t believe that I’m being naive; I just think that they would have much more to lose than gain by manipulating the vote.

Okay, this is a first for me. I have been reading the blog but have not, nor did I think I would ever send my comments. I can’t believe that Kevin is still there. He doesn’t deserve to be on that stage with the rest of them. What is American Idol trying to pull. The first thought that came to my mind when the bottom three were announced was that like most reality shows, the producers do have some say. I sure would like to see the real tally of votes, not the ones the American Idol producers think make the show interesting. Kevin is not only a bad singer he is visual nightmare to watch.

I wasn’t sad to see Melissa go home, although I was totally shocked Ace and Lisa were in the bottom three. What about Kevin!? It’s so ridiculous he wasn’t there… They told us that Kellie’s dad was in jail when she auditioned - too bad he’s trying to take advantage of her situation :(

Wow. I sure didn’t this coming. Granted, Melissa’s vocal range and style are somewhat limited, I thought even with her lyrics goof, this was one of her best performances. I was also suprised to see Lisa in the bottom three. I do agree with Lucy and Kelle .. Ace needs a makeover. How Kevin could have garnered enough votes to stay out of the bottom three is completely beyond me. Hello .. America .. just what are you thinking? I’m also a little stunned to see that Taylor came in second in our most favorite poll.

Ah - no - Katherine didn’t look like herself - she looked beautiful! You know I’m one of those fashion police types - tee hee! I was so glad to see her made up with sexy, smokey eyes and a trendy dress that fit the song - I think it really helped increase her confidence cos she was awesome. Taylor’s look was also totally hot. I swear they put the same stuff on Kevin and Ace every week. I would love to see Ace in something different too - stop letting him look like he shopped from the clearance rack at Goodwill!

I’m not surprised - the 11 year old girls were texting like mad on their cell phones to save Kevin. Melissa just doesn’t have enough support and doesn’t deserve it. I swear there must be something wrong with my ears - because I thought her vocals were terrible - I have never enjoyed her. I wasn’t TOO surprised to see Ace in the bottom three - his mediocre performances are starting to wear thin - Chris and Taylor are leaving him in the dust - heck - Bucky is leaving him in the dust. But Lisa sure as heck didn’t deserve it more than Kevin!!! ARGH. But she is safe for another week - they are all back to square one now and it begins again. I’m not too worried though - I can’t imagine Kevin making it to the end - he will be gone. Chris is emerging as the one to beat, along with Mandisa, Katherine and Taylor - I think those will be the top 4 if they can all keep on top of their game. Stay tuned!

Lucy, I totally know what you mean about the stylists! They did nothing to Ace. I do not want to see the curly locks gone, but a little shaping would be nice and his clothes didn’t change at all. They could move the trendy needle a little with him. He’s a perfect canvas. And Bucky’s hair was a riot. It was actually quite beautiful, for a girl! Kevin? Well, you really can’t help that kid without corrective surgery. Oh no…did I type that out loud? The girls looked pretty good except I didn’t think Katharine even looked like herself.

I cannot believe it. I don’t care about Melissa leaving she wasn’t going to stay until the end anyway but Kevin? Nuff said. And by the way, who are these stylists and what were they drinking?
