2009 Playoffs: Middletown mauls Moeller

Middletown made quite a return to the state football playoffs.

Playing in the postseason for the time since 1990, the Middies routed Moeller 45-10 on Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Division I, Region 4 quarterfinals at Lockland’s Roettger Stadium.

Caleb Watkins and Antonio Banks scored a pair of touchdowns apiece to lead the Middies (10-1). Moeller finishes 9-2.

Middletown advances to face Anderson, a 24-21 winner over Lakota West, next Saturday at a site to be determined.

2009 Playoffs: Greenwood scores for Middies

J.J. Greenwood returns a fumble on a kickoff for a score to give Middletown a 45-3 lead over Moeller.

The Crusaders just recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD to make it 45-10, but there’s less than 2 minutes to play.

2009 Playoffs: Valley View down 22-7 at halftime

Valley View trails Kenton 22-7 at halftime in Division IV, Region 16 quarterfinal action here in northwest Ohio.

If you like passing, this is the place to be. Kyle Pohl is 18-of-31 for 152 yards for the Spartans, while Maty Mauk is 17-of-27 for 174 yards for the Wildcats.

Both teams have recovered an onside kick. Kenton’s Max Morrison returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, and the Wildcats led 14-0 with 9:04 left in the first period. Mauk has a pair of scoring passes.

Valley View’s touchdown was a 9-yard pass from Pohl to Brandon Fox with 4:45 left in the first period.

The second half is just about to begin at Robinson Field.

The Indians’ TD came on an 80-yard run by Jordan Jacobs. That TD tied the game.

NCH just took the lead on a 12-yard TD pass by Dakota Dartis.

Fenwick falls in regional finals

It’s over at Hilliard Bradley.

Top-ranked Columbus Bexley scored two goals in the final 12 minutes to beat Fenwick 2-0 in the Division II regional championship game.

Bexley (19-0-3) advances to the state semifinals on Wednesday night. Fenwick, the defending state champ, finishes 12-4-5.

Bexley breaks the scoreless tie with 12:19 to play to grab a 1-0 lead over Fenwick in the D-II girls soccer regional final.

The Lions add another goal three minutes later, and it’s 2-0 Bexley with 8 minutes to play.

Fenwick High’s girls soccer team is tied with Columbus Bexley at halftime of the Division II regioanl finals at Hilliard Bradley High School.

The Falcons are the defending state champs. Bexley is the top-ranked team in the state this season.
