Fairfield AD weighs in on football program
Fairfield High’s football team just wrapped up a remarkable turnaround season.
After winning just two games the last three years combined, the Indians finished the ‘09 campaign 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the GMC — good for fourth in the league.
First-year Fairfield athletic director Mark Harden had nothing but praise for first-year coach Aaron Fitzstephens.
“It’s fantastic what he’s done with these guys,” Harden said toward the end of the season. “He’s got a good group of seniors. For him to embrace those seniors and make it special for them, and developing some of the younger players, it’s not an easy job. He’s really exceeded most people’s expectations wins and losses wise. The whole staff has really done a great job.”
Should Fitzstephens be Coach of the Year in the GMC?
“If I had a vote, he would,” Harden said. “There’s a real good chance he will. He’s done more than anybody considering the circumstances he was put under.”

Wow, this is such a timely article. Congrats to the coach and congrats to the AD for the recognition. And kudos to the seniors what way to go on a high note.
