Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, will give a free, public lecture at Wright State University on Wednesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. as part of the 2008-09 Presidential Lecture Series.
Aslan is a fellow at the University of Southern California’s Center on Public Diplomacy, a columnist at the Daily Beast and the Middle East analyst for CBS News. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller, “No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam.”

Aslan’s latest book, “How to Win a Cosmic War: God, Globalization, and the End of the War on Terror,” will be published April 21.
In his books, lectures and writings, Aslan explores the intricate interplay between faith and politics in the Muslim world. He presents Islam as an ever-evolving faith and culture currently in the midst of a cataclysmic internal battle for reform and modernization.
Aslan has degrees in religions from Santa Clara University, Harvard University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. He holds a master of fine arts from the University of Iowa, where he was named the Truman Capote Fellow in Fiction. Born in Iran, he now lives in Los Angeles where he is assistant professor of creative writing at the University of California, Riverside.
Aslan’s media appearances have included CBS News, “Meet the Press,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
The Presidential Lecture Series was developed to advance human justice and promote Wright State’s commitment to creating a diverse university community and learning environment. The theme for the 2008-09 series is “Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Academic Inquiry.”
Aslan’s lecture also kicks off Wright State’s ninth annual Quest for Community: A Call to Action. The Quest Conference explores diversity issues in higher education and this year’s theme is “Art and Innovation: Diverse Visions of Community.”
