Gov. Strickland to host Bill Cosby
Hey, hey, hey — Bill Cosby has a date with Ohio’s governor.
Gov. Ted Strickland and Central State University President John W. Garland will host a reception for Cosby on April 18 at the Governor’s Residence in Columbus. The invitation-only event will precede the comedian’s benefit performance that evening for Central State at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
The reception celebrates the Bill Cosby Challenge II, a campaign for Central State to raise $2 million to support university initiatives. Cosby, a longtime Central State supporter, promised to give the benefit performance in Columbus if his fundraising goal was met.
In 2004, Cosby celebrated Central State raising $1.4 million with a benefit performance at Dayton’s Schuster Center. Central State raised nearly double the $750,00 fundraising goal.
“Bill Cosby’s You Can Go!” program is a major objective of the Bill Cosby Challenge II. The program aims to increase higher education access for high school students to attend Central State, Ohio’s only public historically black university.
Central State, as a result of the resources raised under the Bill Cosby Challenge II, will be increasing scholarship offerings under the Bill Cosby’s You Can Go! program.
