Poll: Kasich, Portman continue to lead for governor, U.S. Senate
Republican challenger John Kasich continues to lead Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland among likely voters in the governor’s race while Republican Rob Portman retains his edge over Democrat Lee Fisher in the race for U.S. Senate.
A Rasmussen Reports poll released on Wednesday shows Kasich leading, 50-43 percent when leaners are included.
This is a slight improvement for Strickland compared to an Aug. 30 survey that showed him trailing 52-40 percent, with leaners included.
The poll was taken Monday before Tuesday’s Strickland-Kasich debate.
In the new Senate poll, Portman leads 49-41 percent when leaners are included, marking Portman’s highest level of support to date against Fisher.
In the survey two weeks ago, Portman led 47-41 percent when leaners were included.
“Leaners” are those who haven’t made a hard choice but lean toward one candidate or the other.
The new poll also finds:
*50 percent view Kasich, a former Columbus-area U.S. House member and investment banker, favorably while 37 percent view him unfavorably.
*39 percent view Strickland favorably, compared to 55 who view him unfavorably.
*Voters put more trust in Democrats than Republicans to handle the economy, 48-41 percent.
*51 percent think repeal of the national health care overhaul would be good for the economy.
The poll was taken on Monday by automated calls with 750 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Facts: From 1951-1963 the top marginal tax rate was above 90%, from 1964-1980 it went from 77% down to 70%. During the Reagan and Bush years they dropped it to 50% then 28% while amassing record deficits and tanking the economy. From 1993 to the year 2000 the top marginal tax rate held at 39.6% and America had built up a surplus. George Bush dropped it down to 35% in 2003 despite being at war and our debt and deficits reached new record highs. Coincidentally the lowest top marginal tax rates prior to the 28 percent in the late 80’s was 25% from 1925-1931 leading up to the great depression. On top of that Reagan and the Bush I set records for deficit spending. Again from Citizens for Tax Justice: Shares of non-Social Security Federal Spending Paid for by Borrowing: Truman NONE, Eisenhower 3%, Kennedy-Johnson 6%, Nixion-Ford 14%, Carter 13%, Reagan 25%, Bush I 28%, Clinton 6%, Bush II 23%, Bush II 32%. So called conservatives have a long history of borrow and spend. Today the average CEO makes 260 TIMES as much as the average worker, 260 TIMES! (10 times as much as CEO’s made in the 60’s relative to the average worker.) If you do the math CEO’s today make more money in TEN WEEKS than the average worker would make in 50 years. Put another way; ONE average CEO makes more in ONE YEAR than FIVE average workers make in their lifetimes. The cries of socialism and whining about taxes for the wealthy and corporations are nothing short of blind ignorance. Tax cuts for the top do NOT result in more jobs this has been proven time and again.

Given Rasmussen’s pro-Republican 5-6 point house effect, both these races are probably about statistically dead even, given the margin of error. BTW, the person going on about how Obama doubled the national debt in two years should be informed that FY 2010 is the first budget passed under the Obama administration. The 2009 budget is Bush’s responsibility because they have to pass the budget before the fiscal year starts in October in order to avoid a government shutdown.

—- Why vote for Kasich ? —- perhaps because he does not support the current seek and destroy (capitalism) mission this administration is now forcing on America —- Kasich is for repeal of the healthscare bill/tax – so he’s a good candidate; much of his history is inducive to helping Americans’ feel secure about their future. —STAND FOR SOMETHING The Battle for America’s Soul by John Kasich (c.2006 by John Kasich) Time Warner Book Group –p.90 “…I call it divisive – and it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy… unable to see another point of view because we’ve surrounded ourselves with all these like-minded perspectives. He made a lot of “undeserved” money —— While his company tanked (read - declared bankruptcy) leaving hundreds of thousands of investors in a burning bus, Lehman Brothers partners and managers such as Kasich wrote themselves $84 Billion in undeserved bonuses some of which was TARP money ( read - taxpayer money). This is why Kasich refuses to divulge his 2009 financial data which would reveal a seven figure bonus check from Lehman Brothers. Nothing illegal mind you, but his actions are not very moral or ethical. - but his actions are not very moral or ethical – Not true. – There is more corruption in the current administration than carter has pills, and you’re worried about morals and ethics?

Strickland and Fisher are experiencing the backlash of Obamas out of control spending by doubling the national debt in less than two years as reported by the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) and “the Heritage Fundation”! Obamas “Health Care Bill” should prove a lethal blow to the Democrats aswell! The Tea party continues to roll with another devastating upset victory in Delaware over a “RINO” Republican. The NAFTA and GAT adds against Kasich will do Strickland very little good, since Bill Clinton and an entirely controled Democrat congress passed this bill. Even worse, here in Ohio the Dems. have the proverbial “ACORN Lady” Sec. State Jennifer Brunner who single handedly tried to destroy one of the finest anti-voter fraud systems in the country! I predict that the Democrats will continue to fade in the polls as election day approaches in November!

John Kasich last night: “We didn’t lose any jobs to China.” Defend that conservatives. Just about every fact checking article is calling Kasich’s statement about Strickland’s record on taxes and spending are untrue. The facts are that taxes are 17% lower than when he took office. Spending is down. Kasich lied, but then again, he doesn’t think we lost jobs to China.

The average income in the State of Ohio is less than $48,000 per year. If you think Kasich has any plans to make that go up, you need to do your homework. Everything Kasich stands for is 5X higher than your pay grade. Vote Strickland is you value a middle class Ohio.

And these numbers were BEFORE the debate, which made poor Strickland look just pathetic - no plan - just name calling and nasty comment after nasty comment. As indicated, with 55% not even liking him, he has NO chance in Nov - a complete repudiation of the last two to four years of Dem governance.

Amazing…the short memories of the people allowed to exercise the right to vote in this country. They “drove the car in the ditch and now they want the keys back”. Finally the Democrats have found at least one sound-byte that encompasses what the rightwing-conservative-Republican gang did to this country and Ohio. Was anyone listening when Kasich said he would put in place a private sector group to help bring jobs and they would get secret bonuses for their work. He thought $50K per year for his four hours per week at OSU was just fine. He thought a $400K bonus to help Lehman Brothers go down the tubes was just fine. Sounds to me like he totally DID forget where he came from. Of course most Republicans who’ve gotten theirs do.

I had a mental picture of a ‘possible’ Mike Peters Cartoon; Strickland and Kasich running a footrace towards the edge of a cliff. For Ohio, this appears to be a race or game of ‘chicken’ in which either one winning will end in the same result. The Portman-Fisher race, however, seems to favor Portman more as a means to directly indict Fisher for his role as Strickland’s lieutenant. Those sitting on the fence with Stickland seem to be taking it out on Fisher, rightly or wrongly….then there’s the GOP presence in Cincy to consider.
