Obama, other Dems slide in new poll
For the first time, more Ohio voters disapproved of Democratic President Barack Obama’s performance in the White House than approved, according to a poll released on Thursday, Nov. 12.
The Quinnipiac University Poll also found that for the first time Republican Rob Portman of suburban Cincinnati is moving ahead of the two Democratic candidates in Ohio’s 2010 U.S. Senate race.
In earlier polls, the Democrats led Portman.
The poll found that 50 percent of the voters disapproved of Obama’s performance while 45 percent approved, down from a September poll when 53 percent approved and 42 percent disapproved.
Here is your chance to get in the debate:
In the Senate race, Portman, a former U.S. House member and trade representative and budget director for President George W. Bush, led Democrat Jennifer Brunner, the secretary of state, 38-34 percent and Democrat Lee Fisher, the lieutenant governor, 39-36 percent.
Among Democrats, Fisher led Brunner, 24-22 percent, with 51 percent undecided.
For the Republican nomination, Portman led Tom Ganley, the Cleveland-area car dealer, 26-7 percent, with 64 percent undecided.
Obama’s slippage should catch the White House’s attention, said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
“Ohio is still the most important swing state in the country,” said Brown. “The fact that the president is under water in Ohio is a sign for the White House that something is going on.”
The slip in the president’s overall approval rating was just one of the negative signs for Obama, who carried Ohio in 2008.
Others included:
*For the first time, voters split 40-40 on who is doing he better job handling health care — Obama or congressional Republicans.
*Voters disapproved Of Obama’s handling of health care, 57-36 percent.
*Voters disapproved of the president’s handling of the economy, 53-42 percent.
Brown cautioned that it’s too early to read too much into the Senate race results.
“Nobody knows who they are,” Brown said. “Nobody knows who any of the four candidates are.”
The Thursday poll results followed a Wednesday poll that showed likely Republican challenger John Kasich tied 40-40 percent with incumbent Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland.
The fates of all the Democrats are tied to Obama’s, said Brown.
“Politics is a team game. The players on the team are affected by the captain..In this case it’s captain Obama,” Brown said.
Republicans still have their own problems, he said.
“The Republicans don’t have a captain,” he said. “Nationally, the Republican brand is still in bad shape.”
The poll was taken from Thursday, Nov. 5 to Monday, Nov. 9 with 1,123 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

Amazing. I asked the conservatives here what “freedoms they need to take back” and the only response I get is that they’ve scared the “evil” ones back. So, that apparently is a concession that no freedoms need to be taken back the next election. I keep hearing conservatives scream about how their freedoms have been taken, but none of them can identify them. Freedom of speech and assembly? Still alive. Freedom of religion? Big-o check. Guns? Yeah, there’s been no effort to do anything to infringe on your gun rights. Search and seizure? You’ll rights are as protected, if not more, than they were in the Bush Administration. Stop talking like oppressed wackos and just admit that you’re upset because the other side is in the majority and doing that which they promised they’d do. You lost an election, not the country.

We DO need patriots!! We need some good old fashioned down home believers! People willing to not be ashamed to say what they think! Stand up for what they believe in!! Also, people who can figure it out for themselves. Not just blindly follow the masses. You aren’t supposed to vote for someone just because it’s “cool”. We live in a society where we are supposed to celebrate our individuality…. As long as we think like everyone else… Wake up people….PLEASE! If u don’t it will be too late… I am not a fanatic, I am not rich, I am white, I am a single mother of 4! Poltical correctness is the same as cultural Marxism… Research it!!

When Bush lied about the reasons for going to war in Iraq. And, used fear, threats and intimidation on American citizens. Used corporate socialism by pulling in Halliburton, Blackwater and others. Pretended to be a veteran. And, of course, claimed to be an evangelical. And, even claimed to be a “conservative”. The right wing neonuts believed in his idiocracy. It seems as though the right wing would believe in anything; Santa, the easter bunny and some invisible space god that grants absolution if you start as a coked up drunk, (like Bush) then, claim salvation. But still be allowed to lie and steal from the entire world. (like Bush, the GOP, the C-street set and the neocons)

So obama looked at the options for Afganistan and told the advisors, “re-work it”, then he leaves for an extended visit to Asia.Meanwhile, the generals are still waiting, the troops are still waiting… we’re all still waiting to see any kind of “change”.

Dear Dummy Democrats - the government can’t support the economy. 2/3’s of it is consumer driven. Until you supply jobs, cut taxes and fix trade, we’re going nowhere…that’s right, NOWHERE. The stimulus is a fraud. What happens when that’s gone? Who is going to supply the jobs?

Many people who swept Obama and his party in place at federal and state levels last time are showing buyers remorse nowadays. There’s been a great deal of etherial talk about what the world should be like, but little practical sense put forth from any of them. Until they understand, “it’s the economy stupid,” health care, cap& trade, and constantly referring to what was inherited, aren’t going to resonate any more. The campaign is far behind, and they’ve shown little positive corrective action on any front.

Obama is concentrating on “fundmentally transforming the US” and not anything else. Socializing the US is much more important than any small wars or true healthcare reform, getting the vaccine out. Kaisch will be next governor, Portman(he’s too Bush) the next senator and after help Sherrod Brown find a real job.

I do not consider myself to be a Republican or Democrat, I am white, I do not approve or disapprove of Obama I do not believe he has been in office long enough for that. Regardless of what he does I do not believe he can do any worse than those who were before him.Face the facts the last thing this country needed was another rich white man leading it.

The banking industry is still off the chain. The big three (Goldman, Chase, and Morgan) will be paying out over 60 billion in bonuses this year after accepting taxpayer money last year. I don’t blame either party for the economy. It’s greedy bankers and lack of regulation that caused this mess.

The economy went south under Bush because liberals like Barney Frank and his banking committee caused the collapse of the mortgage and housing industry, which brought down the banking industry, which brought down the automotive industry, etc. How is that Bush’s fault? Wake up people.

The ecomony started to tank under Bush when the Liberals got control of the House & Senate. Term limits should be a helluva lot less than 12 yrs — more like 8 max. Bottom line is that BHO & more of his Liberal buddies are gonna find themselves getting ushered out the door starting in 2010. Some have already gotten their walking papers, i.e. McLin & the governors of VA & NJ.

The fruit cakes who say Obama inherited this mess are quite delusional. Obama continued the exact same economic policies Bush had in effect except he ramped up spending 4 to 5 times what Bush spent.

Elia, term limits would be great. A lot of these political hacks should have been gone long ago. Think Barney Frank who started the recession. However, you would need legislation by the Congress and that won’t happen as they love the power too much. Only other alternative is an amendment which takes forever. Truly, a third party is needed as this Congress along with the “community organizer” are pure scum for the most part.

Obama didn’t “inherit” anything, he fought for and won this spot. So I don’t want to hear him belly aching!! he has already taken more vacations than any other president has at this point in their term. People voted him in because of great marketing by his campaign, fact is he is unqualified, inept, and has a dangerous, socialist agenda that he is trying to cram, down the throat of Americans. Fortunately Republicans will be voted into the house and senate to balance things out in 2010, and hopefully we can keep BHO in check before he is voted out in 2012.

OHB had better get a grip and do something in Afghanistan. He spoke about Lincoln’s abilities to fight the south to save the union. Now he has some big decisions and has postponed them for 3 months while our kids are getting killed in other lands and Texas. He is weak and cannot make these tough decisions. All he wants to do is borrow and spend. He will be looked at as one of the absolute worst Presidents this nation has ever produced. We will need good luck to survive this guy. God bless this mess.

All presidents must “fix” things that the ones before them did.Obama did not inherit anything worse than many presidents before him. However, the cracks are now showing with him and his administration. He is not, and will not be a strong leader for this country.I think that’s he is too “image” oriented to really do anything that will be effective for the U.S. in the long run.Being a “community organizer” is not the same as overseeing the welfare of an entire country.

Here come - How can you malign the education of Ohio voters? There is no question that the economy went sour under Bush. There is also no question that under Obama it is in freefall with no one at the helm. I have to agree with Flipper - we need patriots. We either need to take over a major party (unlikely) or move to support truly independent representatives of the people at both local and national levels. We should have term limits of twelve years each in the U.S. Senate and six years in the House of Representatives. No one should ever be able to attain or retain national office who has spent the vast majority of their life in public office with no experience in the world the rest of us live in.

Speaking of economics, how does spending stimulus money on road construction, extended unemployment, and more government jobs help the economy? And we have a President that rushed the stimulus legislation before it could be read, but still can’t make a decision on more troops for Afghanistan after 3 months?????
