Strickland surprised by McLin’s loss
Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin’s upset loss came as a surprise to Gov. Ted Strickland, who had endorsed McLin and attended a recent fund-raiser for her but did not actively campaign on her behalf.
Strickland said didn’t know if stumping for her would have made a difference.
“The mayor and I are very close. I talked to her today, I talked to her last night. She didn’t really, you know, have that kind of campaign as far as I know, in terms of doing a lot of media and stuff,” Strickland said on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Strickland described McLin as a terrific friend who worked her heart out for the city of Dayton.
“Of all the things that happened (in the election) that was perhaps the thing that was most upsetting to me,” he said.
“It was a close election and I feel badly for her. But I admire her greatly,” the governor said.

The big problem here was that McHat underestimated Lietzell. She treated him like a non-issue. She did little if any campaigning. Kind of like she treated NCR. She paid them little to no attention as well. When they announced they were packing and leaving she had that same silly shocked look on her face as she did when she was told that she LOST. I don’t know much about Lietzell, but seriously, can he be ANY worse than McHat. I have met McHat, she is a personable person, would make an excellent ambassador for Dayton because I truely believe that in her heart she loves Dayton, she just is not equipped to lead it. The last 8 years have been a miserable failure.

The city of Dayton need not be proud of the election results - there still will not be a qualified person leading the mangled mess we call City Hall.

Well, Mr. Strickland, I hope you’re not surprised when you meet the same fate. You may fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

Come on…Ted Strickland is NOT surprised. He just can’t say anything negative because no one is “allowed” to speak their mind or tell the unvarnished truth about a matter anymore.

getting rid of McHat was a good first step, but we will be rebuilding from the damage she and her union bosses have done to us. you do not replace GM, NCR, and countless other large employers that they have run off overnight. we have to change our big tax, pro-union ways soon or we will never be out of the woods. it might take decades, or even generations, before we can make Dayton back into the Gem City once again

Good riddance McLin!! One less criminal in Dayton. You came from a clan of criminals that have done nothing but run that city into the ground. You were absolutely worthless. Now we don’t have to see that sourpuss or those idiotic hats on T.V. anymore. See how much your idiot friend Strickland calls you now that you can’t rob the city anymore. I don’t even know anything about the guy who beat you but anything is better than you. Hell no mayor would be better than you. People like you are what has crushed major inner cities.Just go away. Don’t try to get on council so you can still screw up downtown. Let it recover, PLEASE!!!

I wonder which surprised former Mayor McLin (dang that sounds good) more… Losing the election after assuming she didn’t need to spend money on media and campaigning. Or, losing NCR after spending ZERO time keeping in contact with them while Atlanta was wining and dining them out of Dayton?
