Gov. Strickland’s Ohio approval rating drops to 48 percent; Obama at 52 percent

Gov. Ted Strickland’s approval rating among Ohio adults has dropped to 48 percent in an Ohio Poll released on Friday, Oct. 30, the first time it had been below 50 percent in five Ohio Polls dating back to May 2007.

In the same poll, the approval rating for Strickland’s fellow Democrat, President Barack Obama, dropped to 52 percent, down from 63 percent in an April 2009 Ohio Poll, sponsored by the University of Cincinnati.

The poll also showed a glimmer of optimism about better times to come. Thirty three percent said economic conditions in Ohio were getting better, up from 20 percent in April and more than double the 12 percent in May who said things were getting better.

The drops in approval ratings has more immediate significance for Strickland, who’s up for re-election next year, than for Obama, just finishing the first year of a four-year term.

Eric Rademacher, Ohio Poll co-director, noted in an e-mail that more Ohioans - 48 percent - approve of Strickland’s job performance than disapprove - 37 percent.

“However, his approval has dropped 20 points since May of 07, which is almost identical to his increase in disapproval since,” Rademacher said. “So, that is a trend Strickland will want to reverse as we go into 2010.”

Other key poll findings:

*More Ohioans - 49 percent - disapprove of Strickland’s handling of the Ohio economy than approve - 41 percent.

*A majority of Democrats - 52 percent - approve of Strickland’s handling of the economy while a majority of Republicans - 58 percent - and independents - 59 percent - disapprove of how the governor’s handled the economy.

*Fifty percent of Ohioans approve of Obama’s handling of foreign affairs overall, down from 62 percent in April.

*Forty five percent of Ohioans now approve of Obama’s handling of the economy, down from 56 percent in April.

*Most Ohioans rate U.S. economic conditions as either fair - 45 percent - or poor- 47 percent, about the same as April.

*Also, most Ohioans also rate Ohio economic conditions as either fair - 39 percent - or poor - 52 percent -, again about the same as April.

The poll was taken from Oct. 14-Oct. 20 with 808 adults across the state and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percent.

I’m still waiting for any of these polls to be offer to me or anyone that I know. The only idiots acknowledging any sort of approval for these two fools’ are the Liberals, lazy A$$ welfare recipients, & unions. W/O them, POTUS & GOV’s approval ratings would be more accurately reflected as “non-existent.”

The problem is he will keep getting elected due to the fact that he is a Democrat. I hate dumb voters.

Neither Obama or Strickland have any right to run an economy - they never had any experience at running anything except what we now know to be illegal fundraising and the other a church. Now we all suffer and you’ve seen nothing yet. Markets today realized the numbers yesterday were fake (totally made up of government stimulus money - our tax money!). What have we left with this debt for our kids and grandkids?

Jim is just a pathetic left-wing nut that illustrates how weak minded the left wing is in this country. They heap praise on their Messiah regardless of the fact he’s in process of bankrupting the country. They praise “openness”, yet when you disagree, they want your thought banned. Fairness to the left means your disagreeing opinion must be silenced. People like Jim only hear and think what they want. Good at ignoring facts and twisting figures. They always need someone to hate more than they hate themselves!

Oregon Guy, When Obama took office, we were facing the worst economic downturn since the great depression. Instead of blaming Bush or Obama, I place the blame on squarely on the back of unchecked corporate greed. Read my earlier post.

Oregon Guy, The stimulus bill is credited with 3rd Q. growth. The GDP expanded at 3.5% which matches the average growth rate for the last 80 years. The government programs the encouraged consumer spending, ( cars, houses) is what drove this growth. No doubt, we still have problems with unemployment, which is a trailing indicator.

Hey Jim. You sure are quick to take credit for the recovery but you don’t know why.Reading a map is no the same as making one.Mr. O can’t explain what happened but he will step up to take credit too, just because it happened. Here in Oregon all the stimulus money went to teachers and 8,000 state jobs, That was totally directed by the Fed.because they know best.

Oregon Guy, Silverback started the name calling with “inane morons” and “stupid”. I’m sorry, but sometimes you must call out the irony and hypocrisy of shallow posts.

Numbers don’t lie, people do. I know Obama’s rating and Stricklands are in the toilet. Numbers don’t lie, self loathing number crunchers do, they will lie to make the “numbers” where they want them. Oh way, and 50 percent is still only half, so half of everyone else likes what Obama is doing, yet I haven’t scene THAT poll. ALL POLLS ARE BULL S**T.

Shirley, What exactly do you mean when you say “he’s running our into the ground”? The economy finally grew this quarter, by 3.5% and Wall Street is Bullish. Our international standing is much improved because of eliminating Bush’s policy of unilateralism. We’re closing Gitmo. We’re on the verge of passing meaningful health care reform. Bush is the one who ran the country into the ground Shirley. Obama is the one faced with cleaning up the mess.

Brilliant, Creed and Jim. You apparently understood what Silverback was saying, well enough,so you decided to attack him on how he was saying it. Great example of critical thinkers,Aye? Name calling( primate) is a very Democratic way of a civil discussion.

Although I agree with you, Jim, on Republicans who have acted less than honorably and are getting harder to distinguish between them and Democrats, it is the Democrats who are in control and the Democrats who have managed to outspend the Republicans and everyone combined. We need to stop looking at the party represented and start looking at the individual. How do they vote? Are they pushing a left wing agenda with crazy out of control spending (this includes Republicans, too)?

Hi Jim, I bet you’re cute because even though I don’t agree with your views, you seem like a nice guy. Yeah, in the real world wacky stuff happens, like a left wing radical who campaigned as a moderate and who is now running our country into the ground. Whether on purpose or not, it’s still happening. And Strickland came from the same bush.

Silverback, The hubris destroying this country comes from the private sector, not the government. Corporate executives exercise unchecked power to pay themselves confiscatory sums of money, and use their corporate assets to pay for expensive campaigns of dishonest lobbying to enhance their personal wealth. They do this while impoverishing the rest of us and undermining our rights. The Republican Parties ideology of transferring power from the public sector, where it is subject to constitutional protections, to a private cabal, is clearly anti American.

I don’t believe Gov Strickland, President Obama and Sen Brown are purposefully destroying Ohio and its economy. It’s just a byproduct of their liberal beliefs. Their belief that all people should enjoy same comforts of life, regardless of income. They believe in redistributing the wealth. Their attempts at raising taxes are directly related to job losses and ruined economy. Their spend, spend, spend mentality will bankrupt America as well. The dollar is at historic lows and is going lower. Wake up America/Ohio. Time for change…vote them out of office before it’s too late.

I just wondering if the some of the families that took these polls actually lived in Ohio,as I am concerned our economy is very poor.

Silverback, You think Democrats and Obama are trying to destroy America? Don’t you think your view is just a bit extreme? And creed is right. Before you go calling other people stupid, you should learn to write better than a third grader.

If the democrats lose Virgina and New Jersey governor race the democrats will be in trouble for next year’s election because people are fed up with it.

48% and 52% of people are still stupid, how could these to inane morons, one that has destoyed the economy in Ohio and the other trying to destroy America can still garner numbers this high is mind numbing….who was polled…their families?

If Strickland had dealt with the school funding issue head-on, I could have given him more credit. Seems like he’s just danced around it. I wish a politician would just make the tough choices and stop worrying about popularity or getting re-elected. He will be in the political trash-heap with Bob Taft before it’s all over.
