Former GOP Chairman Bennett scolds party

Former Ohio Republican Chairman Bob Bennett scolded his fellow Republicans on Friday, Sept. 11, and warned them that their credibility is at stake.

Bennett, at a meeting of the party’s State Central Committee, said he was upset at GOP criticism of Democratic Barack Obama’s decision to make a televised address to school children. Bennett said that former Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush had done so without criticism.

Bennett said the criticism was driven by “talking heads. You know who I’m referring to.” Unless things change, “we’re not going to have any credibility as a party,” Bennett said.

Bennett also blasted U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina for “calling the president a liar” during President Barack Obama’s televised speech on reforming health care.

That single remark took the issue away from Republicans, he said. He called for more civility.

“We’re losing the battle with middle America if we don’t understand that,” said Bennett.

Dear Bob you and your middle of the road Republicans have ruined this state, look around your population is dwindling to zero. The biggest employers are the state, county and city.Just become a Union loving Democrat then you will get a lot of admiration from the media.

Walt and MWM, You’re both exactly right. I used to be a Republican, but their hardcore ideology, anger, and fake morality have pushed me away. While I don’t agree with everything Obama does, I think he’s a good, decent man trying to do his best for the people. The Birthers, the school address attacks, Wilson, the tea baggers, etc… All scare me way more then Obama.

Here’s a thought for you republicans who seem to forget your history. A few years aso when the democrats were making a big fuss about the unjustified war and big government and the UnPatriot Act, the republicans made a statement that said “if you don’t like it, then get out.” So right back at ya, if you don’t like it get out. You lost the last few elections; so until you are back in power, just shut up!

Bob, do you not recall then-House Majoirty Leader Tom Daschle railing passionately about Bush 1 “politicizing our schools” ? There’s a You-tube video of his performance. And as someone else mentioned, outraged Democrats called a congressional investigation, held hearings, subpoenaed cabinet members, and determined there was no underlying political intent.

Thank you Jon. Your racism and insanity maybe have just sent more good people our way because they want nothing to do with lunatics like you.

I respect Jon’s directness, though not his insane perspective. At least he puts his racism right out there for all to see. So many R’s hide behind more subtle arguments.

There’s nothing Obama can do that will please his detractors. They’re completely hypocritical and bordering on insane. (Reference the recent “Tea Party” gathering with Nazi symbols and signs saying “We’re not armed. This time.”) They talk about birth certificates and lesson plans because they can’t admit to the real reasons they don’t like him. If they were really that concerned with government spending and government overreach, they’d have protested LOUDLY during the Bush administration. They didn’t. They sure didn’t seem to mind when Bush talked to their kids and told them that there’s no way Congress was going to defeat his “No Child Left Behind” policy. Evidently it’s only okay to indoctrinate kids when it’s the conservatives doing it. These folks only became interested in politics and the state of the nation when the Black Democrat got elected.

Bennet like most of the drones in this city does not know his history. In 1991 the Democrats called for a Congressional investigation when Bush spoke to the kids about drugs. I am sorry, but the Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot with the overreaching. The American public does not want the kind of change that is going on in DC. Obama and the Dems are bankrupting the country. This is evidenced by the trillion dollar deficits and rising unemployment. Also, our currency is being devalued by the profligate spending. When inflation starts roaring like a lion and interest start rising you can thank the democrats. The blame Bush excuse is lame and shows that you lack logic and the ability to think rationally.

Actually the Republican party lost all credibility some years ago. That is why they have all but been voted out of congress and the white house. Their objection to Obama helping school children and Rep. Wilson’s disrespectful outburst are just two incidents in a long line of disregard for the American people. There is no doubt that some people still condone and even support such disrespect that Republicans show towards America’s citizens and children, but the vast majority have learned what the true value system of Republicans is (greed and gluttony) and have said “No Thank you” thus the staggering losses in the last two elections and the third coming up next year.

Bob Bennett is either misinformed or has a bad memory. Democrats flipped out over George H.W. Bush’s address to school children. If Obama’s administration had not sent out the indoctrination prework there would have been no problem.

The republican party has become the party of dysfunctional ideologies. They no longer are a “big tent” party. Their fixation on evangelicals, free market, gun advocates, anti-abortion, anti-gay, pro-war and hate are no longer tolerated by a majority of Americans. The neocon agenda is no longer supported by the American public. The C-street cult does not recognize American ideals or values. There are individuals within the GOP that see this. And, have tried to become a more moderate group. They are blasted by FOX, Hannity and Limbaugh droids for swaying too far to the middle or left. But, reality dictates that if the GOP wants to survive as a political force, they must support what the public wants even if it is somewhat middle or left of center. They also should stop their “morality” rants when there are perverts and deviants within their own ranks. The GOP views on religion, abortion, gays, health care, free market and many other things must change. The American public is not going to bend to the old GOP ideology. The GOP must bend to the new America.

Bob Bennett is exactly right. The lack of credibility is why I left the party and refuse to support republican candidates. You have candidates that hear outright lies, refusing to correct them, and exploiting them for their gain. It is shameful. As a party, there is much more to run on than a pack of lies stemming from phony news, talk show hosts, and email circulations.

Yea what Greg said.I’m not a sore loser, alot of the republicans that lost deserved it, I’m just tired of the msm ignoring stories if they make the democrats look bad,and front paging the ones that make republicans look bad, barely a mention about Van Jones , the Green Czar stepping down , did the msm go into detail why he was busted,no all they said was a few of his dumb remarks, not a thing was said about his radical Communist ties, the same ones we tried to warn you about during the election, Obama has connections to the Communist party usa all the way back to college and up to his Chicago connections.and republicans are to chicken to bring it up.we have to many POLITICIANS in both parties, not enough Patriots, www.termlimits.org

Bob Bennett’s statements illustrate why the Republicans were wiped out during the last election- the cow-toeing and morphing into a poor man’s version of the Democratic Party is the main reason that I, myself, withdrew from the party. They do not have the guts to stand up for the truth. They, like the Democrats, are more concerned for their personal power than the American people.

Philman: from all your posts I read, here and elsewhere, it seems you are a closed-minded republican who wouldn’t know good decent policy if it was served to you as birthday cake, because you can’t see past your red tie. To enjoy this ride, you have to know that democracy survives in a pluristic society, so not everything will please everyone. Give it a rest and try to think positively. Politically speaking Bennett is right, this hurts the republican party.
