Anti-slots group takes case to Supreme Court

LetOhioVote.Org on Monday, July 20, asked the Ohio Supreme Court to put the brakes on the plan to put electronic slot machines at Ohio’s seven horse racetracks without a vote of the people.

The group, formed to seek a public vote on any government-sponsored gambling, wants the high court to affirm the right of voters to decide the slots issue. If the court agrees, the committee will start a petition drive to put the issue before voters in the in the November 2010 election and the slots plan will be halted pending the outcome of the vote, said Carlo LoParo, spokesman for the committee.

The slots plan is part of the $50.5 billion budget Gov. Ted Strickland signed on Friday, July 17, and is projected to raise $933 million over two years. Voters four times since 1990 have rejected expanded gambling.

Members of the group include: former state Rep. Tom Brinkman, R-Cincinnati; David Hansen, former president of the Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions and Gene Pierce, a Columbus-based consultant.

Hello there. I have something to say, about aloe vera, something about which you wrote above, about health and beauty… For a long time, I and my good friend use the products of the Forever Living Products. We always see the fine results and also we make money for our families and we are happy. My friend works with aloe Vera in the company of Forever Living has more than 5 years (My friend works ONLY in the forever living company and has a wife and three children). I know aloe products for personal care for a long time, but a year ago, began working as a distributor in the flp company. Of course, job is so hard, but in no other case, you can earn so much money with so much fun and smiling faces around.. So if you want to discuss something about your post, and about my experience with aloe vera products for weight management, I’ll always be glad to talk. Best regards from Washington and have a nice day! Andrew - Aloe Vera Distributor

If this state and every other state would stop giving all the money to people that won,t take care of them-selves, we wouldn,t need the money from usually the most needy. And in Gods Name, why use the the Race Tracks, giving most of the money to organizied crime, wake up Ohio

It’s almost sad to see people arguing about this when it is probably just Penn national trying to protect their investment at the Argosy. They did it last year. Does anyone think they wouldn’t spend the same money defending their monopoly this year? Better yet, where do you think these 3 morons got $2.5 million to spend on gathering signatures? If they have it, do you think they would really spend it on this?

Hey Fool, you wrote “people choose how to spend their money , no matter how hard you try to keep them from their rights” This is a right? just like the right to health insurance? or the right to vote? better check your copy of the constitution, mine doesn’t list these.

sounds like greed to me , are you afraid your will loose some money that is being stuffed into your pockets because somebody chose to gamble, people choose how to spend their money , no matter how hard you try to keep them from their rights, get over it move on to doing something to help rather than standing on your greed

not as ignorant as allowing the Gov and legeslature telling you what, when , and how high and you sit idly by and do nothing. Nor as ignorant that some people seem to be about macro and micro economics. This would definitly hurt the overall tax base in the long run and cause a loss of jobs overall.

I don’t care if you think video slots are so great there should be one at every street corner. Ohio voters repeatedly vote against expanded gambling. Our governor and legislature don’t seem to have any regard for the will of the people. As long as we sit idly by, the tyranny will continue…

“By not allowing the slots it will ensure more many to private business and will help a dying ecomony by keeping teh money in private hands which is what drives the economy in the first place” One of the most ignorant, idiotic comments I have seen on this site.

The only fool is the one who will stand by idiotically and let others decide what, when, and how high. That is selling your rights to those who “think” they know how to do things better than “we” the people. Let the freedom bells ring and the slots be stopped dead in their tracks as we the people have decided many times before!!! By not allowing the slots it will ensure more many to private business and will help a dying ecomony by keeping teh money in private hands which is what drives the economy in the first place. When taxes are cut, the economy does better, so in comparison it will leave a projected $933 million in spending power in the private sector.

who cares if they put slots in or not, people know the way to find them. all you nay sayers you just hurting yourself for people will find what they want, where they want and i hope they raise your taxes to cover the short falls and layoff your family members to make up the loss of income and i hope your kids are affected by this and also i hope you loose yor job just like i have missery loves company and i need more of you fools on the sideline with me

WE the people should be the ones deciding this issue and many others. We are having our rights stripped away one by one. Let these people see that they cannot do this at their whim and that we the people is where it should remain. That is because we the people, for the people and of the people are stronger than just a few who think they run it!!! Let the freedom bells ring!!!!
