Local lawmakers less than happy about AIG bonuses

The furious press releases are flying, as members of the Ohio delegation make it known that they, like President Obama and pretty much everyone else in Congress, are less than thrilled with the $165 million in bonus payments to AIG executives coming out of the bailout money approved last year.

Here’s Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who attended a Senate Banking committee hearing on the AIG decision this morning: “AIG’s actions are a slap in the face to hardworking Ohio families. Bonuses at companies like AIG - companies relying on taxpayer funds to stay afloat - are an outrage. I hope AIG executives voluntarily return these bonuses. If they don’t, I will push to have them recouped through the U.S. tax code.”

And here’s House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-West Chester:

“Americans are rightly outraged by the use of their hard-earned tax dollars to fund the bonuses of AIG executives. For months, House Republicans have called for more protections to ensure that Congress and - more importantly- taxpayers knew exactly how bailout dollars were being used by financial institutions. Unfortunately, the Treasury Department has not responded with the urgency that taxpayers demand, which is why AIG was able to slip through the cracks.”

Boehner also applauded the efforts of a group of Republicans who introduced a bill aimed at increasing accountability in bailout funds and to recover AIG executive bonuses.

Enough about AIG , it was Chris Dodd democrat who amended the stimulus bill to exempt bonuses. where is the media ? how about lambasting our congress for accepting raises , why didn’t they turn them down? lets look at the way they spend our money. Aig is peanuts compared to our Govt. spending.need some examples- in 1967 congress said we would be spending 12 billion dollars a year by 1990, in 1990 we spent 107 billion dollars. they are so busy trying to keep our focus off of there incompitence, and the liberal news media are helping them. WAKE UP….

President Obama and his Cabinet are in charge of the economy now. It would be wonderful to see some solid leadership instead of blaming and complaining about how things were handled in the past. And in the past the new Secretary of Treasury was Chair of the NY Federal Reserve that had oversight over NY and Wall Street. He was involved in working out the bailout for AIG. In the end, the bonuses by AIG workers just prove that bailouts and stimulus packages are nothing more than wasteful spending. Just hope we have seen the last of these stupid programs.

Since Boehner is incapable of saying anything relevant, we just wait until this Bush lackey leaves. Boehner is nothing more than a republican sucka** AIG execs should do the Japanese honorable thing and commit suicide. Perhaps Bush and Cheney should consider the same exit policy.
