Strickland uses prime time to bash McCain, Bush

DENVER - Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland had 10 minutes of prime time at the Democratic National Convention and Strickland used it to bash Republicans John McCain and President Bush.

Strickland also said nice things about Democrat Barack Obama, McCain’s opponent for president.

“You know, it was once said that the first George Bush was … born on third base and thought he’d hit a triple,” Strickland said on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

“Well, with the 22 million new jobs and the budget surplus that Bill Clinton left behind, George W. Bush came into office on third base - and then he stole second. And John McCain cheered him every step of the way.”

He called McCain’s policies “stuck-in-the-past.”

“…while families are losing sleep trying to figure out some way to make their paycheck stretch through one more day, John McCain is sleeping better than ever,” Strickland said. “He’s sleeping better than ever because he thinks and I quote ‘Americas are better off’ thanks to President Bush.”

He cast McCain as out of touch with regular Americans.

“You know John McCain has no problem hitting the snooze button on the economy, because he’s never been a part of the middle class,” said Strickland.

“And I would say to him: Senator McCain, it’s time for your wake-up call. Because we just can’t afford more of the same.”

“It’s time for a change—and Barack Obama will bring the change we need,” said Strickland to cheers.

Strickland also led the crowd in a round of applause to honor the life and service of U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Cleveland, who died on Aug. 20 of a brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm.

Obama doesn’t have “class”? He has not allowed any personal attack ads on McCain although McCain has had them against him. McCain is the one that lacks class. The Democrats are running a clean campaign and the Republicans are up to their old lies and distortions.

Gov. Strickland’s agenda is to gain power for Democrats. He doesn’t care about Ohioans who are already struggling because under Obama we will be taxed more through “windfall profit” taxes which will raise prices much higher, taxes to fund his additional social programs, taxes to pay for “Universal health-care” and whatever he needs to fund his “unity” agenda.

Wrong- Obama is not the change we need. I’m not too excited about Mccain, but he’s the best we have right now. Taft was a disappointment… Strickland I fear is worse. Mccain was never middle class? So what? He shows more character than Obama shows in his little finger.

if the change you speak of is bigger goverment more social programs higher taxes more liberal judges on the supreme court less military more gay marriages more aborted fetuses more rights for those who would fly jets into our buildings more of our tax dollars to the United Nations more oil from the middle east and less from our own country and so on I can do without that kind of change

Strickland is a hypocrite. Ohio is losing jobs right and left, and its taxes now rank among the top 10 in the country. He has done nothing for job creation. McCain will win Ohio. From Lima down, McCain will take every county w/ exception of Cleveland metro area. Bush had nothing to do w/ sub prime mess, that was wonder mind Greenspan, who did not monitor the bubble nor the free fall when Clinton was in office. The economy tanked when Clinton left office. Elect an inexperienced phony, empty suit from Illinois with no experience in fed government; Ohio too smart for that Ted.Montgomery, Taft, out, but Strickland won only because Ohio would not elect Sec of State- they won’y Obama either. And Scanton Biden will do nothing to help dems in Ohio. McCain can carry state w/o adding Portman as his VP.
