Former Clinton campaign manager endorses Obama

David Wilhelm, who ran Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign and later served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, endorsed Barack Obama - not Hillary Clinton - for president on Wednesday.

Wilhelm, who grew up in Athens, has returned to Ohio and is the founder of a venture capital fund that makes investments in businesses in the Appalachian part of Ohio. Obama has momentum, he’d the most electable Democrat in November and he has run the best campaign, said Wilhelm.

“We cannot outexperience John McCain but we can win on change. We should embrace the candidate who owns change, who owns optimism, who owns the future, who owns idealism, who knows that change is his competitive advantage and is prepared to drive that message with discipline and enthusiasm at every opportunity,” Wilhelm said.

He said that Obama has the potential to be a “65 percent president…not a 51 percent president,” capable of putting together a big enough majority to make major changes in the country.

Senator Obama represents our future. The Clinton/Bush parings is a by gone era. Senator Obama has spoken to all the issues, and now its about leadership. I want a leader who also makes good choices in their personal lives, inlcuding not scarifing your marriage for personal and political gain. We want a leader who has good judgement on Day One. The war was a mistake, and if that what we get for her 35 years of experience, maybe we need more change that I thought.

If you want to get into the past, the Clinton is your choice. If you want to move into the future-a future where our country is truly united-Obama is you choice.

Comparing GWB with Barack Obama is like comparing bozo with Einstein. As to sermons- at least he doesn’t mangle the English language.

Furthermore, you describe how the tone of his speeches has changed - somehow I doubt you have listened to him talk prior to the last couple months because before December there were two kinds of democrats: those who supported Obama and those who didn’t know him. I am one of the biggest pessimists I know, I am criticized for it, but something in Obama makes me want to hope, and it feels good. Go Barack!

In response to the post above, the reason his drug use is not an issue is because most people don’t care that someone took some drugs at a young age, or had premarital sex or (gasp!) cussed. You will be hard-pressed to find a potential candidate born after 1950 that hasn’t done some drugs. In my experience, those who claim to be sin-free usually have the most to hide. I don’t care if he did a drug twenty-five years ago - I care about where they stand now on issues that effect our country.

Why isn’t anyone asking Obama about his drug use? We currently have a president that was an alcoholic and cocaine user… results, questionable decision making. Don’t we deserve a straight answer from Obama on this issue. He can’t say “he was a young man” because when I was younger I choose not to do drugs. I think it tells the voters a little about his character. He’s a little too “slick” and should explain his character flaws as a young man. Usually the flaws remain, but we learn how to hide them a little better as we get older. Maybe his wife set him on the right road. What happens when times get more difficult and he has to make real decisions and not just what to say in a speech. Have you heard him lately? The more confident he gets the more his speeches sound like sermons.
