Strickland casts ballot; Obama unveils first Ohio ad

Ohio and Texas will be the “firewall that makes it possible” for Sen. HIllary Clinton to win the Democratic presidential nomination and then the presidency, Gov. Ted Strickland said Monday.

Ohio and Texas hold their primaries March 4.

“I think it would be very difficult for her to proceed to eventual victory without winning Ohio. I’m not saying that that’s not possible but I think it would make it much more difficult,” Strickland said after voting absentee at the Franklin County Board of Elections in Columbus.

Meanwhile, Sen. Barack Obama unveiled his first TV ad for Ohio’s Democratic primary. It touts Obama’s health care plan which a campaign press release said “would cover all Ohioans and do more to cut costs than any other candidates’ plan.”

Strickland said “who I voted for is my right as an American citizen to keep secret but I will tell you I’m supporting Sen. Clinton for president so that may give you an idea of who I voted for.”

The governor cast his ballot as part of the Clinton campaign’s effort to promote early voting. In Ohio any voter can vote absentee up to 25 days before the March 4 primary.

I was very disheartened when I heard Governor Strickland “promise” the state of Ohio to Senator Clinton in Iowa. It is one thing to endorse and another to “promise” the state. My immediate thought was, “How can Gov.Strickland deny me my right as a citizen to choose the candidate that I personally believe is best for this country?” I think you have to be very careful how you phrase your words. Your statement was not exemplary of a “democracy”. Having worked the polls at previous elections and seeing “first hand” the problems evident at some polling places: re: In 2004, a polling place had a particularly large turn out, the poll workers could not keep up with the demand, long lines of voters had to stand in the rain and having employment responsibilities, had to leave thinking that when they returned, they would be able to vote. This polling place locked it’s doors on time, leaving many in line and denying citizens their right to vote. Calls were made to the Board of Elections early in the day to inform them of the situation, to no avail. In the meantime, a polling place within a half block, the site of my employment(a school),had a very light turnout. We simply cannot tolerate this happening in any district, especially districts that have a large minority population, since this has been a pattern for too long!

If you want to see Mark Penn and Terry McAuliffe in the White House, vote Hillary. If you want a Progressive team, vote Obama. It’s that simple.

“Vote Barack Obama in 2008!” He is the only candidate that can change this country and the world. HRC will only continue the destruction of America that Bush started, with much the same polarizing attitude. “Vote Barack Obama in 2008!”

I know I don’t understand all this super-delegate stuff, but I always thought that they waited to see what their constituents wanted before they endorsed. If Gov. Strickland thinks we ALL want Hillary, he’s made a mistake. Everyone I talk to, including myself, are going to vote for Barack Obama. Shouldn’t he have held off?

1.Whitewater 2.Monica and others 3.Recieving illegal campaign monies overseas 4. Clintons hidden life as a lesbian and opportunistic fake marriage to Bill This is what the Republicans will have at their disposal if Hillary wins the nomination. Hillary doesn’t care about you. She doesn’t care about your healthcare (or she wouldn’t have let the Insurance lobbiest buy her out during her husbands presidency.) She doesn’t care about your jobs, (as she was on the board for walmart) And you think it’s a conicedence America lost their jobs to Chinese slaves..

Wake up, Ohio. Hillary will energize the right wing cevangelical crazies and they will turn out in droves to vote for McCain. This is a fact. Voting for Hillary is stupid from that one fact alone. However, if and when Obama gets the nomination, John Mc/cain will be cooked. Now, let’s talk about who is better candidate and the better messages, ideas, vison of a better and brighter future for this nation, and a more charismatic candidate. Even Strickland knows that it’s Obama, but he is backing Hillary. What does this make him? You be the judge.

Governor Strickland can vote personally for whomever he pleases. But I didn’t elect him to nominate my president. As Ohio goes, so should Strickland in regards to his superdelegate status. And let’s hope Ohio goes Obama!!

While I voted for Ted Strickland and generally like his policies, I certainly feel no need to follow his lead in this election. I would have no problem voting for Hillary if I genuinely believed that she was the best person for the job. She’s just not. Barack Obama’s policies and ability to work well with everyone will certainly change this country. While Hillary’s plans are similar, there is no republican congressman or senator that will vote for her policies and then be able to go back home as expect to get re-elected. If Hillary is president, the dems will lose seats in congress in 2010 and have zero chance of getting any democratic policies through the congress and it is unlikely that a dem would be elected president in 2012.

I am an independent. I also helped put Gov. Strickland in office. I am disappointed that he has chosen to endorse Hillary Clinton. We have had the Bush/Clinton dynasty for 20 years. Time for a change…. Barack Obama in 08

Hillary has two demographics that she is counting on in Ohio, the uneducated and elderly racists. Normally Ohio would suit her well, however, something is changing across this country and I hope it spreads to Ohio.

Didn’t Hillary already try to float her health plan, when her husband was in charge? Didn’t work then, what makes anyone think she’ll have better odds this time. I’m glad Ted Strickland thinks his vote in the presidential primary is so important that he has to spend so much effort on it- why isn’t he working on legal school funding in Ohio? For me, Barack Obama is the first candidate with true statesman potential we’ve seen in a while. I can’t wait for when he’s sworn in.

My vote is going for Hillary, too. What we really need is Franklin D. Roosevelt, but unfortunately he died 60 years ago.

This is the first thing Gov. Strickland has done that has disappointed me. He must think he can get nominated as a VP candidate with Hillary.

Hillary’s “firewall” to stopping Obama’s momentum appears to be early voting. She seems to be saying “vote for me before you get to know him and change your mind”. This strategy played a large role in her win in California….hopefully Ohio has learned from watching that and will wait to actually hear from both candidates before making such a historic decision. I have never understood some people’s rush to judgment.

Senator Clinton has a loyal friend in Ted Strickland. After all, he trashed African-American Ken Blackwell on his way to higher office, too. Now, Southern Democrat Hillary Clinton wants Strickland to do the same kind of job for her. Seeking to be with a winner, ropeman Ted Strickland is only too eager to light the torches and leash the hounds.
