Fun with firearms or would you like fries with your .38?
Every available Englewood unit responded July 29 to the McDonalds on a report of a woman pointing a handgun at another patron. That report was closely followed by a second from a woman saying she was being harassed by two people.
When cops got there, they located a woman in the drive thru and ordered her out of her vehicle. When asked, the woman said she had a loaded .38 in her vehicle. She was cuffed and placed in the back of a squad car.
Police then questioned two other people who said the woman had pointed a pistol at them. One said she was pulling out of a parking spot when the woman pulled up next to them, obviously upset, yelled at them using racially charged language, pointed a silver handgun at their vehicle, then pulled away.
The two followed her vehicle to get the license number while one called police. According to the two, the woman again yelled at them and pointed her weapon at them.
The two were allowed to leave so one could make a chemotherapy treatment at a nearby hospital.
The woman was taken to the police station for questioning. She said she only gave the two people a “dirty look” and when they started following her, she called police because she feared for her safety.
Under questioning she denied pointing a weapon at the two. She denied using any racial slurs. When told witnesses said she had pointed the weapon, the woman said they must have mistaken her cell phone for a weapon. After further questioning, the woman said she may have taken her revolver out — she has a concealed carry permit — and placed it in her lap.
The woman was released and the case sent to the prosecutor who approved a felony charge of improperly handling a firearm and a misdemeanor count aggravated menacing. The case will go to a grand jury Aug. 31.
