TV Premiere week: Part 1 - Reaper, Smallville & Heroes
So I was intrigued by previews and promos for the new show Reaper on the CW. I DVRed it and was surprised to find it quite funny. The pilot episode was directed by Kevin Smith, which probably made it even better. If the next episode isn’t as good, they’d better try to get Smith to direct them all.
Am I the only one watching this show? Satan is played by Ray Wise who you might remember from the great show Twin Peaks.
Also, I caught the premiere of Smallville and it wasn’t that bad. The series creators said that the series would end with Clark putting on the suit and the name of the finale of this season is ‘Superman’ so that would lead me to believe that this is the last season… but a recent interview with one of the series’ creators now hints at an 8th season, depending on the ratings of this one. If they make an 8th season but end this one with him becoming Superman, what would the 8th season be about? Perhaps the ending of the current season will be Clark realizing he needs a secret identity in order to protect his loved ones and comes up with the name but the 8th season will be Clark coming up with costumes and learning how to balance duel identities. Maybe he’ll start working at the Daily Planet (unpaid internship?) or at least develop an interest in journalism (which he has not had in this series at all).
Zack and I also got around to watching the premiere of Heroes. Very disappointing. We hope that Hiro isn’t in the past this entire season. And of course the episode has to start on Mohinder, the worst character of the show. I am glad, however, that Peter got a haircut.

Synopsis of Reaper:
Throughout Sam’s life, he always wondered why his mom and dad were so easy on him. Whether it was sports, school, career choices, or picking on his little brother Kyle, Sam always got away with everything. Because of it, he decided to drop out of college and take a dead beat job, wasting most of his time playing video games and wishing he could ask his co-worker Andi out. However, everything changes in Sam’s life once he turns 21 and finds out the reason his parents let him get over was because they sold his soul to the devil before he was born. Satan explains to Sam that he must serve as his bounty hunter, tracking down souls that have escaped from Hell. Initially, Sam refuses to accept his fate but he realizes the grave consequences of breaking a deal with the devil. He is armed with various vessels to collect the escapees. Sam finds that the work is dangerous and frightening even with the goof ball help of his friends and fellow slackers Sock and Ben, and Sock’s former girlfriend, Josie. As bizarre as his life becomes, Sam feels good about his newfound “missions”, removing evil souls from the world and sending them back to where they belong. Along with his friends and his vessel of the week, Sam prepares to face his destiny as the “reaper”. The series is produced by ABC Television Studio in association with The Mark Gordon Company. It has been given a 13 episode initial order by The CW.— pulled from TV.com
