Help this mom survive morning sickness — again

Ok, moms — I am in week 11 of pregnancy with baby number 3 (Gasp! Yes, I’m pregnant again. Now close your mouth). I sit here, yet again, with my head swimming and my stomach turning.

This “morning sickness” thing for me, is not “morning” it’s all day. Just like with my first two boys, it worsens as the day wears on (I’m betting on another boy this time, too).

In order to be at work, I have resorted to popping a half of an OB prescribed Zofran pill. I really don’t want to be medicating, but I just can’t get through the day. I had to do the same with PG 1 and 2. I held off as long as I possibly could before starting this ugly, but needed, habit.

One more swig of Ginger Ale and my organs will be swimming in it — yuck. One more Saltine and I’m going to swell up like my husband when he eats almonds. One more Tums and I’m buying stock in the company.

A friend encouraged me to try drinking Propel Fitness Water. I’ll be buying some today. I’ll try anything. Unfortunately, the MS lasted about half way through my second trimester with both boys. I’m praying it goes away earlier this time, but just like wanting a little girl, I know better than to get my hopes up.

How did you survive the first trimester? Any magic cures for those nauseating moments — or hours? Please share!

I’m pregnant with number one, also a boy. I didn’t have much for morning sickness, just nausea. But the key for me was to make sure my tummy was never empty. One time I threw up in the middle of a meal though…so really I think it just depends. Good luck!

I have 5 children, and also suffered greatly from 24/7, 9 month morning sickness. Not until my 4th pregnancy did I discover that if I ate a little something every 2 hrs, like a sandwich for example, I wasn’t sick all day. It’s not fool proof, but everyone I have shared this with has said it worked for them too. Good luck!!

I understand your suffering completely! I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and still take Zofran (4mg). Don’t feel guilty for medicating with this because it is a miracle pill for nausea and vomiting. I had Hyperemesis the first two trimesters and in addition to the Zofran took Reglan via a pill and pump as well. I lost 21 pounds! Now I have the “normal” nausea but no vomiting and it’s not every day, thank goodness!! I take the generic Zofran and my insurance would only pay for so many a month so I discovered that when I had to buy it out of pocket Kroger had the best prices by far…just an FYI incase you run into that problem! Best of luck to you!

My morning sickness increased with each succeeding pregnancy but it always helped when I drank a lot of ice water with lemon slices and a few drops of fresh lemon juice squeezed in. It really curbed the nausea. I am not sure if Propel has artificial sweeteners or not, but it tastes awfully sweet to me, and I would not recommend anything like nutra sweet or splenda during pregnancy. Sweet stuff made me more sick, too.

Zofran was a life saver for me as well. I found some relief with the motion sickness wrist bands. About the only foods I could consistently keep down were carbs. Good luck.

I got sick all the time when I was pregnant with my little girl, to the point of hospitalization, the one thing that helped me was Preggie Pop Drops that they sell at Babies R Us or maternity stores. They don’t taste horrible, it’s not medicated, they are just little sour candies. They saved my life! Hope this helps.

I found that Preggie Pops helped me through some rough times. You can find them a any Babies “R” US store.

I agree, Mrs. D. Vitamin B helped me as well. Another thing that helped, I grew my own ginger so I could make fresh ginger root tea. You can get it at Meijer in the organic veggie section. (It will grow if you put it in dirt! But it takes awhile.) About a teaspoon of fresh grated ginger into a tea ball helped, although the powdered ginger didn’t really do anything to help. Let it steep in a cup of boiling water for about 4 or 5 minutes, then sip. You can peel the ginger for ready-use and leave in the refrigerator for a few days in a baggie. I’m only 32, but was taught this method by my grandmother and it worked wonders during my pregnancy. I also grow chamomile every year for treating nausea and you can get it usually at a health foods store. There’s a store in Yellow Springs on going North on 68 on the left side of the road just past town called “No Common Scents” and you can find a tea ball there as well as chamomile.

I like you had all day sickness with all 3 of my children, until month 5 of the pregnancy. Mine was bad enough I could not work. I focused on just staying out of the hospital for dehydration. Anti-nausea medicines, bands and vitamins didn’t do a thing. I lived on popsicles and peanut butter. Peanut butter on celery and apples worked the best. I think the crunchiness and the chewing helped. I would go through 5 lbs. of apples a week ,a bag of celery and a loaf of bread. It worked well for me. I lost 18 lbs. with my last child before I put weight on and he like my other 2 weighed right at 10 lbs. Good Luck!

Ok, now it may sound crazy, but sour Skittles were the only thing that worked for me. Only the sour ones work. Two of my best friends who thought I was crazy now thank me everyday for the tip!

I agree with Mrs. D. I had MS from beginning to delivery and lost over 60lbs. My OB gave me Vitamin B injections.I had to get them every 3 days…I could feel the naseau returning when it was time for my shot. Ask your Dr. about it. I only had one child (18 yrs old now) and of course, was a boy…I wish you well.

Congrats! I second the propel, but not the lemon-flavored since it smells like Pledge, and the wrist bands. I think they’re called Sea Bands and they sell them in drug stores next to the motion sickness meds. I had better luck with bread and soft pretzels (Schwann’s frozen ones) than with crackers, and avoiding the smell of cooking chicken and pork at all costs. I’m 8 months now and I still can’t take the smell. Popsicles and sour candy lollipops helped as well. Hang in there!

Vitamin B helped me a ton when I was pregnant. As well as those motion sickness sweat bands that you wear on your wrists. I didn’t take those things off for three months my last pregnancy except to shower.
