School board to meet on graduation policy
Update: Superintendent Tom York says the board will be cleaning up the language in the graduation policy so that it is in line with the law.
Specifically, York said they will be changing the policy to specify that graduates must pass four of the five Ohio Graduation Tests.
“We want our policy to reflect the law,” York said.
The Madison Board of Education will meet at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, May 21, on the district’s graduation policy.
The board will consider a revision to the policy.
Board President Tim Young said they’ll likely be rescinding the current policy and possibly voting on a new one. Madison’s graduation is May 23.
Young said there are some things that need to be “ironed out” in the policy.
“We are wanting to take a look at it to make sure that every kid possible can fully participate in the ceremony,” Young said.
Young couldn’t immediately say what will be changed when contacted at his office.
Superintendent Tom York was out of the office when the notice of the meeting was sent this afternoon, but should be contacting me Wednesday.
