Preschool funding discussed

Madison parents could pay up to $13.60 a day for preschool if the district does not put any money toward funding the program.

Madison board members heard a few scenarios for funding the program at their meeting Monday. They were originally going to vote in December on how the program will be funded, but decided to delay that vote until January.

Primary School Principal Mike Chaney presented the funding scenarios to the board. He said he’s been talking with the Butler County Education Service Center on the possibility of bringing an income-based preschool program to Madison, which could take in 20 kids max.

Based on this year’s enrollment, that would leave 41 other students and a cost of $99,314 to run the program.

If Madison funded half the program, it would cost parents $6.80 a day to enroll their children.
