Cline to retire
This headline might surprise you if you read the blog post before this.
I was expecting a quiet meeting by the Madison Board of Education. An update on report cards, which came out in August, and on the new building. Some hirings and whatnot.
But when I got to the meeting, the board added a very important agenda item: Superintendent Chris Cline retiring.
The board unanimously approved Cline’s resignation for retirement, effective Jan. 1. Cline had a contract valid through July 2010, he said. When I asked Cline why he was retiring, he said “it’s time.”
I also asked board President Glenn Cappel why this wasn’t on the agenda ahead of time, and he said Cline just told him today that he would be retiring.
Cappel said the board was going into executive session to discuss how to proceed with finding a new superintendent, but will likely fill the position temporarily through the end of the year.
