Seven apply for board seat
The Madison Board of Education will have their choice between seven candidates to fill the seat of former board member Todd Farler.
The board will be meeting at 6 a.m. today to review the applications, do interviews and appoint a new member.
The applicants are:
Ron Prince An employee of General Motors, Prince has lived in Madison for 12 years and has two sons who work for the school district. He has five grandchildren currently attending Madison schools and is currently the junior high football coach. “I know that I can work and help the Madison school board do ‘What is best for Madison,’” Prince wrote in his letter of interest.
Michael McCoppin , a graduate of Edgewood schools in Trenton, is a project manager. He completed the 2001-2004 Edgewood City Schools project on time and under budget, he wrote in his application materials. “I understand the importance of working as a team to achieve goals and the definite importance of communication amongst board members, admin. staff and the public,” McCoppin wrote in his resume.
Perry Kenrick , a 1979 graduate of Madison, Kenrick now has one daughter attending Madison schools. According to the materials he submitted, he is employed at Graphic Packaging. He is a past assistant basketball coach, past varsity wresting coach and spent two years with the girls varsity softball team. “If chosen I hope to support and respect every board member in giving our students the best educational system we possibly can,” he wrote.
Marva Sampson submitted most materials for the board’s consideration. Sampson was a candidate for the board in the November 2007 election, but Todd Farler earned more votes. She is a retired director of the department of human resources for the city of Middletown, and has served on a lengthy list of volunteer boards, including the Butler County Children’s Services Executive Board.
Stuart Locke was a past candidate for school board and writes he has “been extremely interested in education my entire life, and being a resident of Madison for over 22 years, I would be honored to accept the responsibility.” Locke is the owner of Towne Athletic Club in Middletown and has past school board experience for the Butler county Educational Service Center. He has also served on a list of boards, including the Middletown Rotary Club.
Pete Robinson writes he would “bring a solid history of service and leadership to many area organizations that serve our youth and the community.” Robinson has one daughter currently attending Madison schools and another who recently graduated. He also listed community service, including a past member of the Madison Lions Club and lists his professional experience most recently as six years in maintenance for Middletown Regional Hospital.
John Brunswick , a graduate of Madison in 1979, is a prior board member, serving from January 2000 to December 2003. “If appointed to the Board of Education I will do my best to work with the board in facing the challenges for the next year,” he wrote. He also expressed that he would not seek election to the board in November 2009. Brunswick works for Cincinnati Milacron.
